Still Talking About Snow

Postholer.com is an excellent resource for an abundance of information about the PCT including snow levels.  The graph above focuses on the PCT in the High Sierra.  As of June 10, 77 percent of the trail between Crabtree Meadows and Tuolumne Meadows was snow covered.

Scott Parks, who maintains Postholer.com, also has a regularly updated map with snow levels for every section of the entire PCT.  He also differentiates between snow pack and snow on the trail and noted that the High Sierra PCT is averaging over 300% above normal in the category of trail snow.  Little wonder that the 5 High Sierra Camps will not open in 2019.

One of the features of Postholer’s website is a Photo Atlas, a collection of thousands of photographs from years of PCT journals categorized into an incredible number of categories. The categories are organized alphabetically from Acorn Trail to Zig Zag River. While the photos run the gamut in terms of quality, they are an excellent way to get a feel for particular features of the trail (e.g., bears, Castle Crags [photo on the upper right], Hiker Heaven, etc.).
