The Post Natural Arctic, Hongjie Yang

This project explores the uncanny nature aesthetics in the context of our future geographic reality. The latest research indicates that a warming world will render desirable the northernmost latitudes, while the rest of the world will face dramatic climate destabilisation and all manner of shortages. Although the Arctic is foreseen to become a population center and locus of food production within the next 100 years, its landscape will not support conventional agriculture, both because of the effects of global warming and the new geographical condition of the region.
