Stalags y'all! #sbdeurotrip #slovenia #PostojnaCaves (at Postojna Caves)
Slovenia- Postojna Caves
These caves were found sometime in the 17th Century but werent properly explored until 1818.
The cave system goes for over 20km but is only the second largest in Slovenia.
In 1819 the cave became open to the public as a proper tourist sight and electricity was added to the caves in 1884.
In 1872 the cave rail system was added which is now a bit like a roller coaster but at the time was pushed by workers in the caves.
We went through 3km of the cave system and it was truly one of the most amazing places I've been.
Comparing them to the cave systems we have in Western Australia, which are pretty much untouched, it's a bit sad to see so much damage to the caves from the tourists. A lot of stalagmites and stalactites had gone black and were damaged from the tourists.
Apart from this it was truly unforgettable and one of the coolest (literally) things we did on the trip
