happy father’s day i love my dad so here’s a list of reasons to stan my dad
i have never once heard him argue with my mom or raise his voice at her. they’ve been married for 26 years. he’s (very rarely) raised his voice at his kids before but it was usually if we were doing something unsafe. he’s never yelled because he was angry.
some dads watch sports some dads fix cars MY dad is obsessed with making the perfect pizza. he bought a 200lb woodfired pizza oven from some dude off craigslist, bought imported italian flour for the dough, and grows his own tomatoes and basil to make sauce.
favorite animal is bats
he’s a high school teacher, so he has to put up with teenage bs more than any sane person should and he takes none of it. one time a girl was disrupting class so he asked her to leave if she couldnt be polite and she said ‘there is nothing you can do to get me to leave this room’ so he said ‘alright kids we’re going outside’ and had the other 30+ kids in class go outside the building with him so he could finish teaching in the grass
he cried during the atla episode when uncle iroh sang leaves from the vine (he likes atla a lot & thinks azula is like the greatest villain of anything from all time)
sometimes he will impulse buy the most random things from craigslist or yard sales or whatever. a glockenspiel. a chihuahua. a fruit juicer. a whole leather recliner for $5. a flute.
i have a pretty severe dairy allergy so when he goes grocery shopping and finds random vegan/dairy free stuff he ALWAYS buys it for me and im like dad thank you.... but what if its not even good.....
*points to picture of goku* is that nah-roo-toe? (he does this to piss me off specifically)
he loves to cook and did most of the cooking when i grew up like i DIDNT know that most people’s moms cooked like dude.. i thought it was WEIRD if my mom made dinner
he’s 54 but he looks 37. he is not balding and barely greying
he has impeccable fashion sense - i’d ask him for fashion advice before i’d ask any of my sisters
he likes to paint with watercolor
he’s a mega introvert and hates going to social functions so it’s nice to have someone who doesn’t want to be there as much as i don’t want to be there. sometimes life is just you, your dad, no conversation, and a package of golden oreos in the kitchen at a party while everyone else socializes in the backyard
halloween is a mega holiday in my household and my parents always go ham on the costumes. he’s been captain hook, obi-wan kenobi, aragorn, sokka, and professor oak, to name a few
i’ve never seen him dance he HATES dancing and has no sense of physical rhythm (even though he can play the guitar. wack) one time i said ‘what about the cha-cha slide the song is literally just a set of instructions’ and he said ‘i get my left and my right mixed up’
for two years during my childhood he went back to school to get his masters’ degree. he was a master’s student, a full-time teacher, and an involved father to 6 children aged thirteen to two. i don’t know how he did it.
he’s a brother to three girls and the father of six girls and he treats women so well.. he’s parented his girls so well dude he never falls into dad-of-girl stereotypes (like girls are too emotional or too hard to understand or too irrational etc). he’s never wished for a son he’s never told us implicitly or explicitly that there are things we can’t do because we’re girls like he just treats us like the individual people that we are which is all i could ever wish for in a father
please wish my dad and his team (1000 birds) luck at the world series of birding today. they are going up against some baller team names. last year they came in a very tight fourth place with 175 birds, they've been in the top 3 since 2019, and in 2018 they won the entire competition. we can do it
