guys i'm freaking out what is happening right now in Ukraine is fucking scary In case you don't know what is happening, here's a little summary. Okay so basically the Ukrainian people has been fighting for months to get rid of their shitty government because they've had enough. Their former president fled and left the country, and has been replaced by a temporary president. The people then discovered huge mansions filled with gold and everything, and realised that their president had been using the country's money to buy things for himself. Okay so that's just part 1. Another reason which made the people get rid of the government is the UE. Ukraine has wanted to be part of the UE for quite a while now, however Russia always pressured them into not joining it. Russia trades a lot of things with Ukraine, so they kind of need to have Ukraine on their side. (Besides, Russia is planning to recreate a union, the Eurasian union, which would be similar to the USSR.) Right now, Ukraine is divided into two parts (not actually divided but 2 different ideologic groups have been formed). Crimea, a region in the south of Ukraine has always been influenced by Russia and wants to stay on Russia's side, whereas the rest of Ukraine wishes to join the EU. So, because of the recent uprising in Ukraine, and to try and get more power, Russia has sent tanks and troops to Crimea (and since this region is on Russia's side, they let them in). It's kind of like an invasion, though it is thoroughly denied by Vladimir Putin, who said that Russia was merely trying to bring order back in Ukraine. Most governments have reacted to this, mostly the US government (though other countries like Canada, or the UK are involved as well). Obama contacted Putin to tell him that if the Russian army stays in Ukraine, there might be consequences, and that Russia will end up isolated (most of its trading partners would no longer sell things to Russia.). There was supposed to be a G8 (or G20 I don't exactly remember) summit soon to discuss the situation in Ukraine and it has been cancelled due to Russia's actions. What I'm saying here is : There might be a fucking war. If there is one, I think Russia would start it. The situation in Ukraine now is similar to the one in Georgia. In 2008, Russia attacked Georgia and obtained 2 different territories from it, which are considered "independent states" by Russia, but aren't recognized as countries by the UN. Most people think Russia is trying to obtain the region of Crimea. What I'm thinking is that Russia may in fact try to obtain the whole territory of Ukraine. I mean, the USSR collapsed only 20 years ago. Putin might want to recreate it (thanks to the Eurasian union project I mentioned earlier.). If this is indeed Russia's true goal, then we are so fucked. I'm not saying that you should be scared, but you should fucking be scared. There's nothing WE can do for now. Petitions wouldn't do shit. We just have to wait, hope that things will get better, and count on our presidents and representatives. But yeah. This is dangerous and. fucking. real.

Government forces were behind most of the alleged war crimes in the final bloody months of Sri Lanka's 26-year civil war and may have systematically destroyed evidence of mass killings, according to a new Australian report. The report by Australia's Public Interest Advocacy Centre Ltd, a non-profit policy group, detailed witness accounts of potential war crimes such as deliberate artillery attacks on hospitals, rape, torture, sexual violence and the murder of Tamil Tiger fighters who had surrendered. "Although violations were committed by both sides, the evidentiary material indicates that members of the Sri Lankan Security Forces (SFs) perpetrated the vast majority of alleged crimes during the investigation period," the report said. It said Sri Lankan command and control structures were so well-established that, if the charges were proven in a court, it could lead to the conviction of senior military commanders and Sri Lankan government officials.
