I feel like the Wizarding World is a bit stale. Warner Bros have the rights to the IP but they aren’t really bringing much to the table at the moment. Sure we had Fantastic Beasts, Hogwarts Legacy, that mobile game, the upcoming Legacy sequel, the Quidditch game, and the HBO series but at the the end of the day, other franchises as well as HP fan fiction have overshadowed anything Potter can do for us. There’s a glass ceiling that can’t be broken.
Most of us are in it for the nostalgia and love of British people— but I feel the magic has super sharp edges and vast limitations. Ancient magic, other wizarding schools, and more magical beasts could be explored more but due to a slow influx of new content and not much more supporting lore from Rowling— the magic we see is highly limited beyond our interpretations through the lens of our childlike wonder. Rowling dug everyone into a hole. Most old fans and potential new fans don’t buy into her hate and won’t even experience the franchise anymore. Because the author is highly controversial and the series isn’t as massive as LOTR, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones— even if they expand on the world, magic, and characters—we won’t see much more exciting lore I believe.
I’m personally not amazed by all the spells as I used to be. I printed out all the spells online as a kid and used twigs and then later a Universal Studios Elder Wand replica to pretend I was a wizard like I would pretend to be a Jedi/Sith with toy lightsabers. The fandom and imagination isn’t dead but the limitations of the TERF’s Wizarding world isn’t getting a satisfying overhaul anytime soon.
I’ve been a Potterhead since I was very little but don’t support Rowling’s insane transphobia so don’t come at me.
Also, these are just my options. If you want me to dive into a specific point instead of painting broad brushstrokes, let me know.
If you want my opinions on the misses of the travesty that was the Fantastic Beasts movies— lmk.
