Politician and educator Harvey Gridley Eastman was mayor of Poughkeepsie, New York in the 1870s, and founded the Eastman Business College in that city in 1859 when he was 25 years old. An avid entrepreneur, his interests included home construction, railroad bridges, and water purification systems to name a few. He was cousin to George Eastman of Kodak camera fame. His life was cut short by that scourge of the 19th century, tuberculosis, at age 45 in 1878.
