Pouring Ribbons’ Silk Road Gin Cocktails

After last year’s successfully received Route 66 themed cocktail menu, East Village favorite Pouring Ribbons debuted its Silk Road menu this past week. The menu is based on the wide spectrum of culture and flavors that span the 2,000 year old superhighway connecting China to the Mediterranean Sea. 

The result, as Blouin ArtInfo puts it, “is a novel menu of 20 cocktails that vary wildly in flavor profiles, which all inspire curiosity about their common theme. With names like ‘Gunpowder Empire’ and ‘The Painted Veil,’ each cocktail is based on a story from the Silk Road’s two thousand years of history.”

Creative Director, Amanda Elder, was kind enough to share with us a couple of Pouring Ribbons’ gin-based Silk Road cocktail recipes featuring Beefeater Dry London Gin. Cheers and enjoy!

The Painted Veil sees cave-aged Chinese pu-erh tea adding earthiness to a citrusy London dry gin, with aromatic baijiu complementing the savory fruit notes of an American amaro we developed at Pouring Ribbons.

- 1.5oz Scottish Toffee Pu-erh-Infused Beefeater Gin - .5oz Lustau Oloroso Sherry - 1 tsp Simó/Wallace Brovo Amaro - 1 tsp Orgeat - 4 drops Hong Kong Baijiu - 1 dash Root Beer Bitters

Glass: Nick & Nora Ice: None Garnish: None Method: Stir & Strain into tea pot

By using the classic 20th Century cocktail as a template, this drink marries the flavor of bananas, which are indigenous to the Subcontinent, and the complimentary flavors (such as coriander) in a classic London Dry Gin.

- 1.5oz Beefeater Gin - .5oz Marie-Brizzard White Creme de Cacao - .75oz Banana Syrup (2 parts Banana Puree: 1 part Vanilla Syrup) - .75oz Lemon Juice - .25oz Lustau La Jarana Fino Sherry - 5 drops Saline

Ice: None Glass: Fizz Garnish: Banana Leaf Method: Shake. Double strain
