carol's voice rang out across the now gravely silent battlefield. him of all people getting the gauntlet snapping his fingers. thanos was no more, the chitauri were no more, the black order was no more ---------- but at what cost? she saw pepper go to him, falling to her knees next to him. as she watched them for a few short moments, she came to realize what it was: they were saying goodbye to each other ----- pepper more so to tony than vice versa. stark was dying. her stomach turned, even more so once others started gathering around. carol remained rooted on her spot, mind racing. she knew of one thing that might work but... was it worth a shot? was it worth trying and reaching out, open up wounds that still didn't heal properly? hell, she didn't even know if her former commander was still alive.
her suit was still kree, however, the communicator should still be working if she gave it a jump start and found the right frequency. she had to, there was no other way. reaching out to yon-rogg could be stark's only chance of survival. the transfusion helped her survive and made her stronger. she just prayed that yon-rogg was willing to help.
knowing she was in a very tight frame to make it happen, carol started fumbling around with her communicator, eventually catching a frequency that was more than promising, the all too familiar shape of yon-rogg, confusion and shock clear in his face, showing up on the small hologram image.
❝ v-vers? ❞ the kree commander stammered out, not understanding what she wanted, or why she was contacting him in the first place. it took him but a few seconds to assume his usual, stoic posture. ❝ you finally decided to gloat, after so many---- ❞
❝ this is not the time to go through what happened years ago. i... ❞ carol hesitated for a little bit, didn't even bother scolding or correcting him as he called her vers. ❝ i need your help. ❞
❝ you? you need my help? what could you po---- ❞
again, she interrupted him. ❝ how close are you to c-53? ❞
❝ we're in the orbit, waiting for--- ❞
❝ it doesn't matter why. just come. ❞
❝ just come, yon. ❞ she repeated. ❝ please. ❞
she sounded genuine, almost scared at that point, clearly in a hurry and whatever it was, she needed him. it was a twist he hadn't expected, especially not as the kree were working for thanos, unwillingly so, but still for him, waiting for the given word to launch an attack on the battlefield should the chitauri not prove to be enough. he could already tell why he was there and why he managed to get down so fast, though that would have to wait.
the small pod he used to get down to the surface caused immediate and rather hostile reactions from everybody nearby, which had carol step forward in his defense. ❝ he's here to help. i vouch for him. ❞
yon-rogg still didn't quite understand as he got out of the pod. since when was she defending him? she might be stronger than him, though that excused none of that behaviour. he didn't need anybody defending him, though given the situation, it might not have been the worst thing in the world. ❝ you still didn't tell me what you need help with. ❞ yon pointed out.
carol just nodded for him to follow, and the kree commander did so hesitately, watching as the mass of people in front of them moved aside to let them through. sure enough, the reason why she contacted him was very clear. ❝ did he...? ❞
❝ snap his fingers? yes. he's dying, yon. ❞
he was dying. it meant one thing that immediately came to mind that could save him. carol did well thinking about that, even if it happened decades ago. yon-rogg knelt down next to tony, checking his vitals. ❝ if you have a medic present, bring him forth. he'll need a transfusion within the next ten minutes, otherwise he's a goner. ❞
