FlowersFlowers just aren’t something he particularly thinks about overly much. I won’t say he doesn’t notice them, or that he hates him, because it’s not that, it’s just...They aren’t really something that is a part of his daily life. However, he will certainly 100% notice if a lady he’s around is wearing lavender or orange blossom water. Those are scents that, while he doesn’t register it that way, are “comforting” to him; they’re something soft and calming about it that he doesn’t necessarily realize, but he’ll be drawn to a woman wearing them over anything else.WeaponsHe keeps his weapons in clean, good-working order. This is partially headcanon, partially canon, but without them he’d be kind of screwed, so it’s the idea of if you take good care of your weapons, they’ll take good care of you. He keeps his blade clean. He keeps his pistols clean and ready for action (especially since they’re flintlocks and black powder is a really messy thing when it comes down to it). And he keeps his baldric, which is the shoulderbelt he wears his sword in, well-oiled. He might not give two fucks about the state of his clothes - since they’re literally starting to come apart at the seams and he’s lost buttons from his frock coat (because they’re literally twenty years old) - but his weapons and accessories for his weapons he makes sure stays in good order.BooksHave I mentioned how much he likes books. Surely I’ve never mentioned how he’ll literally read anything he can get his hands on. Hector is, for the absolute most part, self-taught in literally everything. His learning to read is a privilege, and he’s aware of that and combined with his need to know every detail of every thing he comes across has left him a voracious reader and learner. He’s so well-versed in so many things, like astronomy and Greek mythology (mythology in general really), and I fully believe he keeps a journal like a lot of pirate captains did at the time that is...Kind of an amalgamation of good places to trade with native peoples, what groups are friendly to pirates where they might resupply, what wildlife and sea life is fine for hunting and fishing for in a tough spot. He keeps books, too, they’re all over his cabin, and we’re not talking cheap pulp books of the day but nice, fat, thick and heavy volumes of things. It’s one thing he likes to claim as part of his share when they take a ship that has some he hasn’t read yet. So, tl;dr: Hector Barbossa is a huge nerd.
