Post Covid-19 World
In response to this macro trend, I asked family members, old and young, what they would be wearing after the pandemic is over. Picking words from their descriptions, I created my mood-board.
Some of these words were: sporty, comfortable, chic, timeless styles, oversize, cropped, bright colours.
I also researched trends influenced by the current pandemic.
I cleaned up my mood-board and I added some high-fashion examples.
Trends Forecasting - Professional Practice - Macro Trend: Protest
For this macro trend, I looked at the “Fridays for the Future” strikes and how young people in this global movement are very result-oriented, as opposed to soothing words and empty promises. This attitude will be reflected in other areas of life as well, including fashion. There is definitely more awareness of what to wear and how clothes are being produced. Also, durability is more important than pretty looks. For example, high fashion brands are not worn to these or any other protests. I also researched the "Cry for Help" messages written by garment workers on clothing labels that gave a brief note of their actual working conditions and wages. Awareness of ethical resources has increased for many people, in many areas.

In this part of the Professional Practice project, we are looking at various Macro trends within the fashion industry. Under each Macro trend, we are looking at the shorter Micro trends that we think could be picking up. The climate crises has become an issue of global awareness, thanks also to Greta Thunberg's relentless efforts and the Friday's for future movement. The fashion industry is contributing immensely to our global pollution and the desire to change the way we design and dress is on the forefront.
