❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Honoured to have been on the frontline in the fight for black radio presence in Canada. 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️ little did I know in my lil Jean skirt cowrie shells that i was signing up for a battle but we fought it (and many still do) with integrity, pride and a deep sense of purpose 🖤🖤xo 🙏🏾🙏🏾 📻 @strizzzyeverywhere • There was a time.... We had purpose and we had power. Black talent, black music, Black beauty, Black Culture... Black ownership. Today marks the 21 years of Toronto and Canada's first black radio station. We all petitioned. We all rallied. We all supported. We were all in. Im not here to debate it's direction later or it's misrepresentation. TODAY is about Black excellence in Black History Month. Blues Cues time.. First & foremost #RipFitzroyGordon 🙏🏾 thank you for believing in us. ❤️ The Gift & the curse of Morning Radio, gift is being the flagship..curse is when it's time for change, the flagship often has to sail 🙏🏾🙏🏾☺️ to do a decade at a black station everyone said wouldn’t last 6 months & do it in true Mark & Jem style, unapologetically black & Caribbean, mixing humour & humility, politics & passa passa 😉 in a difficult Canadian Radio landscape just to brighten your mornings was a pleasure & an honour that we never took lightly 🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you for making us family ❤️❤️❤️ from aunty Jemmy’s babies who sent vids of themselves singing “jem is my name” 🥰 to all the artists who came in for an interview & left as bredrins ❤️📢📢 to the parents who would call frantically if the eediot ting was late because their kids wouldn’t leave the car for school till they heard it. 😩 To the Caribbean grannies who collectively & fiercely adopted mark & I as their radio grandkids esp after I lost my grandmother 🥺 & they blanketed me w love & support. To the woman who told us that as her mother was dying of cancer it got to a point where the only thing that would guarantee a smile in the morn was when she’d say “turn on Mark and Jem” 🥺💔😢 (that one still gets me) You are the reason we do radio. To my co -D my bestie, my cousin from another Muslim (strong dat bad right?!😂👊🏾) @strizzzyeverywhere my other half you are a blessing in my life, you make me laugh harder than anyone else, you’ve always ALWAAAAYS got my back (as I’ve got yours) where I fall short you are ..
