Frame #101: This poor, oblivious angel, not realizing the trauma he's about to go through
Sometimes I wonder if Crowley's snakey traits are self-actualisation from his involvement in the war and his Fall
Ligur/Hastur call Crowley a snake in S1 when they discover he's betraying Hell. Sure, he is literally a snake, but it's also symbolism for his deceit and treachery
I'm so curious about pre-Fall Crowley and his involvement in the war. To see how he gets from that bright-eyed Starmaker who'd never heard of Earth, to a silly demon asking questions about morality on the Eden wall? That'd be so interesting
On Crowley's Angelic Name
I've got two thoughts on this.
Thought the first:
Of the major theories regarding Crowley's name pre-Fall, I think the Baraquiel one holds the most water (especially in light of Gaiman denying the Lucifer one today, which was never one I agreed with). The entry on Baraquiel describes them as being a Dominion (tracks with Crowley being able to access files that needed clearance of a "throne or dominion or higher") with red hair associated with the sky. Crowley is associated with weather a couple of times this season, though none that I can remember in season 1. They've got "eye-burning ginger hair" and Crowley's hair is described as "bad" by Furfur in his little comments on the same page. Notably, while Aziraphale's entry is pretty insulting (though that image on the next page makes him look like a badass, do you think Crowley had input on it?), none of those insults are about his appearance specifically, unlike this random angel whose entry just happens to be the next one down in alphabetical order.
Thought the second:
I don't think the audience will ever be explicitly told, on screen, what Crowley's angelic name was. Crowley's whole thing is the forging of his own identity. He even changed his demonic name, which Furfur also insults on the same page. Crowley clearly draws a distinct delineation between who he is now, and the angel that existed pre-Fall, telling Aziraphale in the Job minisode "The angel you knew is not me." The speculation regarding the name is a fun mystery for the audience, and certainly one the show encourages (otherwise why would Crowley so deliberately not introduce himself to Aziraphale until they meet in the Garden) but I also don't think it's one that we'll get a completely clear answer on.
I do think it's possible, however, that Aziraphale will find out what it is (especially in the context of assuring Crowley when they reconcile that it doesn't matter). I could even see someone (perhaps Saraqael, who seemed upset Crowley didn't remember them) starting to call him by that name, before Crowley abruptly cuts them off. Maybe they get enough out that the audience hears the first sound and it confirms some eagle-eyed viewers or it doesn't.
But at the end of the day I don't, for the story of Good Omens, think that Crowley's pre-Fall name matters all that much. Crowley is Crowley.
The stars burned with the holiness of God
Process (+ reference) under the cut
Hi there! I’ve been searching for this one fic. I don't remember much but I remembered Crowley feeling bitter about being an angel that was created in the same stock with other thousand angels while Aziraphale was created as one solely angel by God. There was the dialogue about being ‘one in thousands, one of thousands’ or something. Also, I think it's based on book canon? Thank you in advance. I hope you have a great day!❤️
Hello. Could this one be...
That Love and Am Beloved by Dragonsquill (G)
Aziraphale was created as one, surrounded by Her love and specially formed to protect the Garden.
Crowley was created as one of a thousand, a legion of near-identical angels to create the cosmos.
They may have both been angels once, but they were never the same. Crowley, thrown from heaven for so little, should hate and distrust this angel, who gets away with losing swords and skirting the rules. Yet somehow, they grow closer as the millennia pass.
(Primarily based on the book, with some angelology and a splash of the series thrown in)

HOORAY. I have now written Heaven beginning to end. Now it's wrapping up the stuff in Hell.
Holy shit.
I can't wait to read back through and edit.
Hello!! I’m looking for some fics that focus on pre-fall Crowley? I’ve looked through all the fics that were related I could find on your blog and I’m now obsessing over the theme. I don’t care if it’s book or tv canon, but I would prefer non-explicit fics!! Thank you in advance if there’s anything you find!!
Hi! We have more pre-fall Crowley recs here and here so do check those out. I’ve dug up a few more non-explicit fics for you now...
It is not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves by DonttellNightwing (G)
Before the fall, Crowley and Aziraphale knew each other. Though, Crowley went by another name.
The Healer and the Guardian by GreenGlitchBitch (T)
The first thing the Healer feels is a soft, loving touch. It is not physical, but they feel it all the same. The first thing the Healer hears is a gentle voice, a woman’s voice, the voice of a mother.
The taste of raspberries by HolRose (G)
After the failed apocalypse, Crowley has something he wants to explain to Aziraphale. Given that he isn't the most comfortable demon when it comes to his feelings, he decides the best thing to do is show him. This involves a flight and the sharing of old secrets about his life as an angel.
Love Is A Song (That Never Ends) by NightValeian (T)
Upon their Creation, every angel was given half of a song.
The other half was given to their soulmate.
--
In which Aziraphale and Crowley are soulmates connected by a single song and how they slowly come back together following the Fall.
Refuse Thy Name by theycallmeDernhelm (G)
“You were an angel, once.” “That was a long time ago.”
Crowley drunkenly lets slip an ancient memory, which sets Aziraphale looking for answers.
the ghost at the end of the song by taizi (T)
“He didn’t mean to,” Raphael argued, as if stricken by what she was implying. “Michael, you know him. He only asked questions. He is naive and curious and full of mischief, but that hardly makes him a—a—”
He searched for the right word, groping for the knowledge that hadn’t existed before the War.
Michael told him. “Demon,” she said. “Evil spirit.”
She wasn’t happy to say it. She wasn’t happy to watch the expressions parade across Raphael’s face. Horror, and hurt, and anger, and grief.

Hi, can you rec me fic about Crowley pre fall, pls ?
We have some pre-fall Crowley fics here, and I have a few more now...
Gravity, or The Law By Which We Fall by rowenablade (G)
Before Crowley was a demon, he was an angel who made stars.
Before Aziraphale was a principality, he was a soldier in a universe that had never known war.
They're on opposite sides when they meet, but neither knows how to treat the other as an enemy.
They're on their own side, when they remember.
Starmaker by pass_the_salt (T)
“He had the stars to keep him company. He had his stars to keep him company. No one could take that away from him.”
Crowley is a starmaker, a creator of galaxies. It’s his job, but luckily for him, he loves doing it. Perhaps he loves it a bit too much. His supervisors always think he’s got too many ideas about how things should be done, but even if they don’t like his ideas, he does things his way anyways.
If he’s not careful, it’ll be the death of him one day.
Sic Semper Ad Astra by lucernis (T)
Thus Always To The Stars
In which Crowley falls, but not before leaving behind stars in the sky and love in his angel’s heart.
For the Heart of a Star by Ineffable lawr (T)
Far above the newly born earth, Raphael shapes the ether. The Almighty is so pleased with his creations that she appoints him Chief Starmaker and awards the rank of Archangel. The other archangels become jealous of his advancement that defies centuries of angelic hierarchy and tradition. Raphael finds a kindred spirit after a chance meeting with Aziraphale and together, they discover the wonder of his creation and forbidden angelic love. Already on Heaven’s bad side for his inquisitive mind and new status, Raphael risks losing everything.
Molding The Future (For What Is To Come) by Pearl09 (G)
It took a lot of work to make Earth – all of the angels were assigned jobs to try and get things to run smoothly. But when Raphael receives a challenge from his sister that isn’t something to do with stars, he turns to the best creator he knows for help – Aziraphale.
A Portrait in Synesthesia by DiminishingReturns (M)
In the innocent time before the Fall complicated everything, one shy, studious chronicler and one curious, chaotic starmaker fell in love. They were left with no memory of each other, but the soul remembers what the mind forgets, and their experiences together left them with a unique kind of synesthesia— the emotional state, mannerisms, and voice of one having a paired physical response (smell, taste, or color) in the other.
Follow Aziraphale and Crowley from the pre-Fall times to the Apocalypse as these heightened earthly senses continually pull them back together. At first, they meet tentatively under Halley’s Comet, the last thing Crowley created as a starmaker and an excuse to keep returning to one another’s orbit. But over the millennia, their relationship deepens and they find new reasons to seek each other’s company.
