Accolades
Hi, hello, anyone there? Doesn't really matter, I suppose, I just have Thoughts and want to hurl them into the ether.
So. I was randomly thinking about accolades, and the Batchers' aversion to them (not actually that randomly; I know exactly why I came to think of it. I was thinking about Outsider POVs, and had just been reading TBB fic, and the song Agincourt came on the playlist, in which there are mentions of accolades, and it's not a word I hear or use all that often).
Anyway, so way back in the TBB episodes of The Clone Wars, when Echo joins the Batch, and they leave Anaxes before the medal ceremony or whatever it is, they say something about "accolades" not really being their thing. And I've just been thinking… that's kind of interesting, isn't it, when they otherwise seem to care a lot about their 100 % success rate and generally being better than the regs. Wouldn't such ceremonies etc. be great opportunities to rub it all the everyone's faces?
But I guess maybe the Batchers don't actually care much about the prestige and fame and such. They're already infamous, and their success rate speaks for itself. And that, their success rate, is maybe more a point of professional pride (and basic survival) than anything else. And maybe the special attention isn't all that nice for them. A lot of the regs already hate their guts, and being singled out, made to stand in front of so many people… Even if it's to be told that they did great, I guess it might not be very comfortable for them.
Probably, they also just… don't care what all those people think. So long as the four of them (the five of them, after this) get to stay together and alive, and so long as they all know their own worth (to themselves, to each other, to 'the cause'), that's what really matters. Who cares about a bunch of inconsequential regs who hate them anyway? The accolades won't change anything for them.
