Hear me out
Noncon corruption arc
Like, you got a character. Good morals. Has absolutely undergone disciplinary training. Would consciously never murder, but they're not necessarily against it. Certain circumstances gotta be met, yknow?
What's better is they've a little sadistic kick. They know it's bad to think like this. They've been taught otherwise, they've actively trained to subdue their sadistic nature, and they've gone through over a decade of living as a peaceful, good person.
But then something comes along and tests their virtue and willpower. The character in question, terrified and furious, blunder choices one after another. Their sadistic nature comes through. But it's okay to be angry and to hurt like this, because it's justified. This test insults and threatens the safety of the character's beloveds, belittles their existence, implying they're simply replaceable toys.
The bloodthirst is unquenchable, the fear for their safety unmatched. They're failing the task. Their heart is good and true, but not immune to the corruption. But it's impossible to corrupt them, isn't it? When their heart is in it to protect their loved ones.
They don't even know they're falling. That they're twisting. Corrupting.
These character arcs are my fucking bread and butter.
