September 5th Entry Deadline Coming Up!
With the Entry Deadline fast approaching, it’s time for me to bring everyone up to speed on what exactly that means for would-be contributors.
Q: What is the Entry Deadline? It’s our screening process to make sure all upcoming comics are ready to be developed! You must meet this deadline on time and send in the requirements to [email protected] to be considered for the upcoming issue. Q: What do I send in for the Entry Deadline? Things work differently depending on what kind of contributor you are. 1.) If you’re a writer* - You will need to send in your script and the name of the artist you’re teaming up with. The only scripts that will meet the entry deadline are ones with an artist on board, so you need to find your partner before then! 2.) If you’re a solo artist - Many artists don’t write scripts, so a story outline is fine. Storyboards/layouts/thumbnails are preferable, as it shows us you’re more serious. *We suggest having the writer in creative partnerships handle all email interactions with us. Q: What do you expect from submission emails? For the subject line, be professional. Use this template: NOVEMBER 2016 SUBMISSION - [COMIC NAME] BY [AUTHOR/AUTHORS]
For the email’s contents, be straightforward. Hit these points: Introduction: Hello, my name is… I am sending in COMIC NAME. My collaborator is/I’m working alone. This comic is a one-shot/ongoing and is X pages long. The basic gist of the comic is… The Submission: I’ve zipped up the storyboards/attached the script to this email. Contact info: Info: My site is… You can contact me over email/this website. Q: What should I expect from submission emails? Typically, the week after the Entry Deadline is a mad rush to get feedback to everyone ASAP. I give feedback in the order I obtained them in, so if you send yours in at the very last minute of the day, it’ll take longer for me to get back to you.
I always use the submission email you sent in to contact you, as it helps keep our inbox tidy. Please reuse it as you send in further files for the progress deadlines and final deadline. It’ll make things easier for both of us.
Q: Do you have any examples I can look at from past submissions? For a team collaboration, you can take a look at we received for Mouth by Schwarbage and Pal-el. -> Script Concept Art Work For a solo effort, you can take a look at what we received for Nancy ‘n’ Winston by Dustin. -> Example 1 2 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Based on what I’ve already been sent in, I’m very hyped for the upcoming issue!
