A “stone” rose I made, based off of Hannah Whitten’s series The Nightshade Crown
A menhir (standing stone) in the middle of a farmer's field outside of Brest. It's probably been standing there for six or seven thousand years, and at 10 meters tall this one is the tallest in France. It was particularly surreal for me to go see menhirs and dolmens (table stones) on my trip to Brest because I first learned about them in 11th grade when we read a silly "my first French book" type novel called Presque Mort that took place in Brittany. I am slightly ashamed to admit that that book was pretty much the basis of the entirety of my knowledge about Brittany before coming...in it an American girl at a French high school gets bullied until she saves the bully from choking to death in the school cafeteria. It is, as you can probably tell, some fine, fine French literature.
