April 2026 Recap

Not a ton of horror this month, though to be fair the first on this list was a TV show that took up a good amount of my time!

Something Very Bad is Going to Happen

A gorgeous queer lead and a pervading sense of dread meant that I *had* to watch this one, and while it wasn't perfect I very much enjoyed it! Really dives into the idea of a soulmate being a curse and not a blessing. Lots of great performances, gorgeous visuals and fun editing.

2. Prey

Another entry from the House of Psychotic Women bok, this had a lot going for it beneath its bare bones premise. An alien creature impersonating a human is caught in a toxic Yuri situation, and it's a sight to behold. Some gender moments, some over the top catfighting, and an evil lesbian. Not perfect but worth the watch.

3. Darling

Very much a style over substance movie, but the balance is not so distorted that it isn't worth the watch. Unlike my criticisms of Lost Gully Road last month, this main actress, Lauren Ashley Carter, manages a captivating performance.

4. Shock

A woman terrorized by her son who is possessed (?) by her dead ex-husband, and boy is it unsettling. While it seems they mostly protected the child actor from doing anything too heinous, the creepiness and discomfort is cranked up to 11 with this entry from the House of Psychotic Women.

5. The Wind

And finally, another entry from the House of Psychotic Women recommended viewing. This had a unique setting and utilized the isolation and claustrophobia of wide-open spaces very effectively. Another captivating performance by the lead actress, Caitlin Gerard.

Overall a pretty good month with films and shows worth spending your time on!
