CONCAChampions League reformatting.
I am a big fan of football, in particular of the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS and Luis Angel Firpo of El Salvador. Both clubs regularly compete in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League yet the tournament is run so strange when they have a perfectly good model to follow in Europe. Even the way that teams qualify is a bit off. Liga MX and the MLS both get 4 clubs each in the tournament while every other country gets 2 or less. From there the teams are put into one of eight groups and do a home and away game series.
This format could remain but if so then an extra team could be added to each group. Currently Costa Rica only gets two teams despite traditionally performing well in the tournament. El Salvador gets two teams as well and despite being a currently weak league have historically done well and have teams with huge followings in the US. Canada gets one team putting them with countries like Nicaragua and Caribbean nations. Costa Rica, El Salvador and Canada can get an extra team each.
Liga MX despite already having four clubs they could have another two club added to increase the competition and also the revenue of the tournament. Likewise the US can have one extra team compete in the tournament to increase competition and revenue within the tournament as well. The last two extra clubs can be either Central American or Caribbean in a preliminary round. This way the tournament lasts longer and has a greater sense of continuity.
