Salvation comes only once Agartha burns.
Yet, simultaneously, only through The Shadowman can the crew find Salvation.
Once Agartha burned, the cycle was already destroyed, and Salvation came for those who once suffered within it.
Post-Revelations — or Great War — Richtofen shows mannerisms similar to The Shadowman, leading many people, myself included, to believe BOTD was GW Richtofen enacting the promise The Shadowman speaks of in Revelations, which was to break the cycle. Along that, the crews also notice Richtofen's strange behaviour and voice their suspicions towards him.
The Shadowman's plan had always been to reach Agartha, and this is finally concrete proof that his plan had always been more than just to bring doom: his plan had always been to burn Agartha.
In a way, The Shadowman won the never-ending war against Monty, regardless of whether he died or not at the end of Tag der Toten.
