@prince-niki || night fell fast around drearwoods in the summer, although later than she was used to. because of this, amelise often found it harder to sleep and instead found herself up all night taking up painting and other human activities that might be considered normal.
the only problem?
she hated being a human
of course, there were things that weren’t so bad. the food was pretty good, her friends were here. life could be good on the land above the sea and had been for a few days. but the girl couldn’t get out of her funk and she blamed it on the lack of ocean. with no water around she felt dry and unlike herself. her bubbly persona had dropped so much in the last few days that she had caught notice of her mother whom she had been calling frequently.
ariel had no idea what to do other than try to offer advice . for her, legs were all she ever wanted. she never could imagine why her daughter yearned so much for her fin. listening to her go on about the perks of being a human had only depressed amelise further until she found that she must distract herself from the stupor she was under.
which led her here now, outside Niki’s door.
Niki was the only person Amelise could think of that would make her feel better. the only person who even without telling him that she was sad would make her smile. the only one she could trust fully to be herself around, her best friend. slowly she forces a smile onto her face - she doesn’t really want to vent to Niki or anything, just seeing him will be enough - and raises her hand to knock lightly three times.
“Niki? It’s meee.” She attempts to regain her bubbly voice, calling through the door half-excitedly as she usually does.
The summer air was still warm on her bare skin as she padded out to the courtyard. Really, Amelise had no idea what to expect. She had dressed in a simple shorts and tank top combo, throwing on flip flops and pulling her hair into a ponytail as a way to be comfortable - yet had left all of her belongings back at her dorm. To her a movie in the park meant lounging in the grass ( Of course if the sea had been there it would be optimal ) and staring up at a big screen. Never would she have thought so many people would be so .... prepared.
All around her in the courtyard lay blankets. People sharing blankets, people wrapped in blankets. Nobody lounged on the grass and rolled in the dirt. they all looked very civilized indeed. The girl wanders the periphery for a while, nervous as she scans the groups. Another thing she didn’t realize? How many people would come with others.
It took a long time for her to notice him - longer than normal because of how overwhelmed she was becoming. But when she did, sitting by himself, Amelise’s throat constricted (and it had nothing to do with the heat). Feeling more nervous than usual she padded up behind him, tapping his shoulder lightly. ‘ I didn’t expect to see you here Nik. ’ She mummers with a small smile, pulling her arm back to hug herself. // @prince-niki
