So what does the machine code for a spinning finch look like?
Body rotations are quite a bit different! It doesn’t need an animation script, so instead it applies a rotation matrix on the entire model.
In the case of a spinning finch, I set the direction to any value outside of the 8-directional range (such as 9), and then the rotation value increases until it gets to 8, then it wraps around to 0, so it repeats infinitely. (It’s technically a bug, but I like to keep it in the game!)

Can birds be different sizes? Birb smol? BIRB BIG???
Whoops, sorry, I didn’t see your ask until now!
I’m keeping most of them all relatively the same size, but with different tallnesses. It makes things a little more sensible for the game world. But I will have some birds be exceptions to this, like hummingbirds being real tiny, and I was working on a harpy eagle that’s pretty big compared to the rest!
i look forward to one day playing bird game
I look forward to one day finishing it B)
