Yesterday when I was playing City of Heroes, I came across a familiar face: The CEO of Earth, a character belonging to none other than Scott Sharkey, video game writer, internet funnyman and generally cool dude. Back in the day, when City of Heroes had only recently come online, he wrote a series of humorous blog posts on the video game website 1up.com (R.I.P.) about it, called "Memoirs of an Urban Vigilante". That series was one of the things that inspired me to start playing the game for the first time.
Needless to say, I was a little starstruck to meet an old hero of mine, but he was very nice about the whole thing, and flattered that I remembered his old writing. He was even kind enough to let me take some screenshots of the CEO hanging out with Princess Pop.
Afterwards, I was delighted to see that he had joked about the encounter on Bluesky!
