Rowan wipes rain out of his eyes as he approaches the front door of what Elise tells him is Atticus' place. It's raining so heavily he'd hardly been able to drive. His heart thumps terribly as he knocks on the door.
He'd regretted leaving the moment he'd done it. He'd though it was for the best, though. Rowan regretted telling Elise just to tell everyone he was dead. He hadn't entirely thought she would but Elise was always good about respecting wishes.
When the door isn't opened immediately, Rowan second guesses himself. He thrusts his hands in his pockets and turns away. There's no way Atticus really wants to see him. Atticus must have moved on by now. Forget everything Elise said about this being a good idea.
Rowan has only taken a few steps away when he hears the door open behind him.
