Tumblr’s new privacy settings include the Privacy Dashboard. If you request your device and account data downloads, expect to wait awhile for the email notifying you they are ready. Tumblr advises “it may take up to 30 days for this download to become available.”

Google Releases Second Android 12 Beta With New Features

New additions include Android 12's Privacy Dashboard, Microphone and Camera activity indicators, revamped wifi controls, and more.

"With privacy and security becoming a higher priority for Google, the company is planning a number of changes in that vein for Android 12, including the new Privacy Dashboard. The goal is to give people a better way of seeing what kind of data their apps are using. So not only will the dashboard show you every app that’s accessed your microphone, camera, or location info in the last 24 hours, people will even be able to request additional details about why a specific app may have tried to view sensitive info."

So that whole Tumblr Privacy Dashboard thing...

I requested a download of my data May 25, and just received it today. Within it I found a ~50MB text file that containd JSON information. 1 million+ lines of information. Here’s what I found:

Within it I found information about my blogs, the names they used and if they had previous names (which none did, though side blogs apparently have an untitled name for a short period of time), settings I have on them related to advertising and notifications.

Additionally, it has information on which platform you are using for what, and if you’re on a mobile device that has notifications, it keeps information on what the notification was for, who it came from (likes/messages, etc), and how you reacted (which for me in most cases was launching the app).

It also keeps all “last active times” which I assume is when you log in or open the app. Every time you do.

It also keeps information on every ad that has been attempted to be shown to you, whether or not you actually saw it (false if you adblocked it or it didn’t load correctly), and whether or not you interacted with it.

Then there’s the biggest bulk of it. A list of posts the server has sent to you for viewing. I don’t know if it is every post you’ve ever seen, but it’s a lot, some dating back to 2015 (2018 as of writing this). It had information on if you viewed it, and if you interacted with it, as well as the post type and source (post url).

And it only gets more invasive, it keeps track of who you follow, and everyone you have ever followed, even if you don’t anymore. It keeps a list of the tags you like the most (not all though, it seems to just calculate which ones you like). Like is the keyword there, as many on this list we’re not tags I use on my blog.

The data that is being kept isn’t what shocks me, it’s the amount. The file itself was just shy of 1.4 million lines of JSON, which is structured like this:

So while there are “empty” lines, the majority is filled

So yea, Tumblr has a lot of data on you. And deleting stuff will only remove so much of it.

After unselecting all 300 partners and trying to save this shit, i turn back to my privacy setting and see the cookie consent tab is still on. Not only that but it has also reselected all 300 partners i manually ticked off. 

What’s up with that hmm? 

Second fuck up: what’s going on with the privacy dashboard? I click it and get directed to another website? 

Not only that but no matter how many times i log in and out and all that shit, it keeps telling me something went wrong? So i can’t check my privacy dashboard?
