I love you ao3, I love you dead dove, I love you dark and fucked up ships, I love you weird and unusual kinks, I love you porn without plot, I love you unapologetic violent fiction, I love you horror, I love you splatterpunk, I love you unreliable narrators, I love you morally gray characters, I love you characters with no morals whatsoever, I love you authors that write whatever you want, I love you authors who don't stop others from writing whatever they want, I love you readers with critical thinking skills, I love you media literacy
Fandoms have a serious problem with how creators are being treated these days.
Fandom creators spend hours of their free time to create something to make fandom thrive...for free and for the love of the game.
And what do they get? A wholeass heap of fuck all. No reblogs, no comments, no nothing. And people are surprised that creators are dropping out left, right, and centre??
"Why is there no long fic anymore?" "Why did my favourite writer stop?" "Why is my favourite artist not posting anymore?"
I implore you to ask yourself: "What's the last thing I did to support my fandom? Does my favourite creator know they are my favourite? When was the last time I left a comment under something?"
Ya know, we tell the fancops to go to fanfiction.net and stop using ao3 if they hate it so much, but like, they would never survive there! I haven’t gone on in probably almost a decade, but there aren’t really tags, and really no warnings. You get the title and the summary. You will get jumpscared by stuff you don’t want to see. Ao3 is a fucking oasis compared to ff.net (or god forbid, Wattpad), but they’re too entitled to see it. Ao3 has such an extensive tagging and warning system. It’s honestly really impressive. And they have filters. Filters. You can exclude the stuff you hate!!! No one is forcing you to read any of this!!! You can mute and block people on ao3 now too!! If you’re seeing all this stuff you hate but aren’t using the tools available to you just so you can throw a fit, that’s your own fucking problem. Quit making it everyone else’s.
antishippers in ao3: INCEST SHIPPING FREAKS DO NOT FUCKING INTERACT!!!!!!!!!!!!
the first fics on ao3: incest
hey everyone it's ao3 donation period which means it's time for me to make this post again!
it's your money and you're allowed to do whatever the hell you want with it as long as you're not hurting anyone. it's very tempting to want to toss a dollar or two, but i imagine by midnight i twill have already hit it's milestone, given that ao3 tends to hit even larger than it's usual donation goals. and this one is also trying to get new members, so if you're going to donate, why not consider donating $10 or more?
ao3 has already hit as of now $160k+, and the reality is a buck or two is probably better kept in your account to just get something else. the main benefit of being an OTW member, specifically, is the right to vote! with it you can vote in OTW board meetings and generally try to have a voice in the site. i usually donate $10 a year specifically to have OTW membership.
maybe you just wanna toss a buck of two just for the sake of showing that you love ao3 and that's fine- i just personally want to suggest if you do donate you might as well donate enough to get something out of it, or just keep the cash on you for anything else, but it's all your choice.
regardless, have a great day!
"they need to ban xyz on ao3"
wattpad called, they want their users back.
