Trip to Professional Wrestling's Hall of Fame
Have you ever watched a Hall of Fame ceremony? Whether it was for music, movies or sports? Thought of going to see them get inducted or just see the plaques in general? Well, for professional wrestling, you can. There is a Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in New York.
The president of this organization is Tony Vellano. Tony was never a professional wrestler. He worked with the NYS Athletic Commission to make sure wrestling shows in New York followed the State Athletic Commission rules. He would later leave and start the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. The committee that chooses who should be inducted consists of former professional wrestlers. Not anybody can be in the Hall of Fame. They must meet requirements to be eligible.
Since its beginnings, there have been 112 inductions. The first class to join the Hall of Fame was in May 2002. The class featured names such as Andre the Giant, Lou Thesz, Ricky Steamboat, Gorgeous George and more. Later inductees have included Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair and Bret Hart.
There is an induction ceremony coming up on May 18 and 19 in Amsterdam, NY. For more information, you can go to the company's website www.pwhf.org/index.asp. If you don't want to watch it live and just see all the plaques and bios then you can go to the actual museum. Visiting days are only on the weekends. Saturday hours are 10:00AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday hours are 12:00 Noon - 4:00 PM. The building is on 30 East Main Street in Amsterdam, New York. It's a great way to spend time with your family and learn about some great professional wrestlers.
