Professional Context One
LEVEL FIVE - PROJECT ONE
The Professional Context One module is worth 20 credits. In this module i will be researching my professional practice within the theme of either: Site, Gallery or Education/ working with people. I am going to research all three intensely before making an educated decision on which i want to carry through for the next year. I am aiming to spend at least one day and a half on this module every week. The module is self service but guided by staff and tutors.
SITE: Working within the theme of site opens up the opportunity to manipulate a place or location outside of the studio. For example this could be working within an environment with installation.
GALLERY: The gallery theme would end with an exhibition in a gallery. Throughout the module the group would work intensely to create an exhibition, learning throughout what planning goes behind organising an exhibition. In trimester two the exhibition will be held. In trimester one the planning leading up will be carried out. Each individual will be set a task that will help in overall outcome of the exhibition. Each person will leave Level Five with a better understanding of how to curate an exhibition.
EDUCATION/ WORKING WITH PEOPLE: This theme for the module would allow students to carry on into working with people in for example: education and hospitals. The university provides a limited number of support for students who for example may want to experience working with autistic people. Opportunities like this are great to have on a CV, it allows you to have real life experience with the public. The relationships you form through this module could create future job opportunities.
My initial decision is to edge towards the gallery theme as i have started working with an up and coming gallery already. Although i could interpriate this place into the Site theme due to its location. I will look at both the postives and negatives of both similarties and see which one fits best within my professional practice. For the Education theme i am put off due to i have never wanted to work with people. I feel this would be too intence for me socially and wouldnt link in with my current work. Working within art therapy does interest me slightly, more because im interested in the planning and science behind that lead to its help among the public but working with vulnerable people in such an intense way is not something I want to push on myself.
Adobe Premiere/ Film Making
I created a small film using Adobe Premiere with a small group of three people. The main concept of the video is the someone has to go through a door. I had to use a variety of different shots such as the:
Low Angle Shot: This is shot that looks up at a character or subject to make them appear bigger.
Tracking Shot: This shot follows a subject, it can be from the side or from the front.
Establishing Shot: This shot will be of the place that the scene is taking place.
This was the first time that I had used Adobe Premiere. At first it was hard to get my head around it. In the group I was mostly in charge of filming the shots and staring in a few scenes. I also was in charge of cutting up the pieces of video and removing the parts of the video clips that weren’t needed.
Kuum - Website Research

Kuum is a project created through a collaboration between Fellisimo (A mail order company based in Japan) and a creative agency called Monogoto (based in Portland, USA). The have designed a collection of 202 building blocks made out of beech tree wood. The blocks represent the different elements of the planet.
This website is a eCommerce website. Meaning they are selling products. You navigate the website using a scrolling function. With a small menu to the side, allowing you to quickly jump to each of the sections. The main function of the website is to make you buy the product. Therefore they have a ‘buy’ button taking you to a page that gives you options of purchase.
Wokine - Website Research

Wokine is a digital agency that works worldwide. The specialise in designing websites for companies giving them a more modern online presence.
The overall website design is aesthetically pleasing. Which is needed to give off the message of what they do. Having a website that wasn't well made would be bad for the company.
To navigate the website there is a menu function on the landing page. From the home page you can scroll down giving you an overview of the values of the agency and the work they do. Whilst you’re scrolling information and pictures will form onto the screen in a very natural fluid way. There are also social media links to the right of the page which give you the chance to find out what their recent projects are.
Complements - Website Research

This website is for a start-up company called ‘Complements’. It is a collaboration between Universal Favourite (Design Company) and the Bakedown Cakery. They sell geometric flavoured chocolates that can fit together to make a new flavour of chocolate.
I picked out their website because of the aesthetic. They have a very minimalist clean layout which compliments the geometric shape of the chocolate. With it also being a start-up business they should be aiming for this modern feel.
the navigation of the website is straightforward. You can either click the tabs at the top to quickly get to the page you want or you can go the natural way and scroll down to find what you are looking for.
