August 30, 2015 marked the day we became more than just a fandom; the day we made a difference. This coming Christmas, we're heading out to the world once again and becoming more! We present to you #ProjectSafetyPinPH! From the start, we've always advocated the idea of being the "better person". We want to emphasize a fan's love and compassion towards other people, whether or not we belong to the same fandom. But we also believe in action being greater than words. As embarrassing as it is to admit, most of us prefer to hide behind our gadget screens and online persona rather than stepping out and socializing. Yes, we are guilty of this ourselves. This time around, we want to show everyone that being the better person does not and should not be limited behind the flowery words we compose on social media. GHI or Gentle Hands, Inc. is a welfare agency that focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating children who aren’t as fortunate as most of us. The foundation currently houses 110 -120 children, ranging from newborn to 12 years old. Some of these children have experienced trauma and abuse in their young lives, while some have not known any other family but those kind hearted people in the orphanage they’re growing up in. We call ourselves the ‘5SOSFam’ or ‘5SOSFamily’, and we’d love nothing more but to extend the meaning of ‘family’ to these children. #ProjectSafetyPinPH aims to: 1. To make the children of GHI feel the spirit of Christmas by spending time with them and giving gifts. 2. To strengthen the friendship and camaraderie within our fandom through reaching out and helping others. 3. To open more doors of opportunity and make way for donation towards the children of GHI through our group’s influence in social media. 4. To encourage our fellow youth and fellow fangirls and fanboys to be more aware of the society around them. So how does the project work? We asked GHI to have the children to write a wishlist of what they want to receive this Christmas. The general idea is to distribute the wishlist among the willing participants and have each person prepare a gift. On the day of the event, we're giving the children a Christmas party where we distribute the gifts, share the music, and most importantly, spread the love. Now this is where you come in. If you're 101% sure you're able to go to the event, sign up here fast:http://bit.ly/PSPPHform Unfortunately, due to the limited space of the venue, we will only be opening the actual party to 20 people. So again please be 101% certain you can come on the day. If you aren't able to make it, that does not mean you can't participate! You can still pick up a wishlist and buy a child a gift. Fill up the same form and we'll send you more information on how and where to send/drop off your gift. If sending a gift is not possible for you, we also accept donations in kind and in cash. Donations in kind are preferrably diapers, milk, school supplies, clothes, rice, canned goods, toy cars, dolls, stuffed animals, rubber toys, balls, slippers, hair pretties, building blocks, coloring books, socks, cologne (for older children), clothes. Donations in cash can be towards the organization of the event (food for the children, transportation, miscellaneous expenses) or towards GHI directly. All donations are highly appreciated and encouraged! If you want to go above and beyond, we are open for sponsorships. Please send us a message atfacebook.com/5SOSPHTeam or fill up the this form:http://bit.ly/PSPPHSponsor and we’ll send you a formal letter of sponsorship. We firmly believe that no one is too poor for charity. If we can scrounge up the money to support our idols by buying their music and merch, attending concerts and fan events, then making a child feel special by buying him/her a gift shouldn't be too much. As the song goes, "We'll safety pin the pieces of our broken hearts back together". These children have been broken in more ways than one. Let us be the 'safety pin' that holds them together. Let's be the ate's and kuya's they would look up to. Everything that we do and everything we give to them will most definitely last forever in their precious and passionate hearts. Who knows? Maybe somewhere along the way, we'll find that they too are the bridge we need to stitch our broken selves back up. It's never too late to be the "better person". "No more waiting, we can save us from falling."
5 Seconds Of Summer PHTeam is inviting you to be part of a very special project in collaboration with Gentle Hands, Inc., a welfare agency in the Philippines that focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating children who aren’t as fortunate as most of us. The foundation currently houses 110-120 children, ranging from newborn to 12 years old. Some of these children have experienced trauma and abuse in their young lives, while some have not known any other family but those kindhearted people in the orphanage they’re growing up in. 5 Seconds Of Summer PHTeam invites the ‘5SOSFam’ to become these children's family to celebrate the anniversary of 5SOS on 3rd December. As the song goes, "We'll safety pin the pieces of our broken hearts back together". These children have been broken in more ways than one. Let us be the 'safety pin' that holds them together.
