Hey! This is a question regarding Flufftober2025 prompts, What's "Double or nothin'." and also X+1, haha, planning out my character list and I was stummped.

Sorry if it seems silly! :)

Hey, you two 😊 no question for clarification is ever silly and none of you is ever a bother😘 so ask as many questions as you need!

Let me preface this by saying that our rule of thumb is and always will be that you can take these prompts wherever they lead you! If you understand the prompts in ways we didn't even consider, but it makes sense to you, your character, your fandom, your story, etc. then please go with it 😉

That being said, here are the ways we understood these prompts when creating the lists:

Double or nothing?

That's a term often used during gambling of any kind. Say you made a bet but lost. Now instead of paying of your debt, you say "Double or nothing" (either as a question or a statement) and if the other party accepts, you make another bet (or play another round of whichever game you were gambling over). If you lose again, you'll have to pay double the amount of your original wager, but if you win, you have to pay nothing.

x + 1

This can stand for many things:

Use this to write a fic in the 5+1 format, like "5 times the admin of flufftober wasn't able to complete her own challenge + the 1 time she finally did" (sorry for the example, I just had to 😅)- These kinds of fics are very common in some fandoms and it doesn't always have to be 5 things - could also be 3+1 or 7+1 or whichever works best for you.

Could be understood as a +1 to a wedding or birthday or any other party.

How about your character is bad at math and needs tutoring? 😏

Meeting in the Middle

Getting to an agreement is already a great way to interpret it. It could also be about two characters who live far apart and literally meet somewhere that's right in the middle between their cities. Or you could add a word, like "meeting in the middle of a field" (I have American Football on in the background and now all I can imagine is two characters meeting on that field to kiss as the grand finale of a fic 😂)

prompt clarification

This is for the anon that gave me a prompt beginning "Tony does aeygo..."

I just wanted to confirm that you meant aeygo (a Korean term for acting cute, charming, or coquettish) and not ahegao (a Japanese slang term for an exaggerated facial expression depicting a state of extreme pleasure or orgasm).

I have no problem writing either one, but the English transliteration of those terms is pretty similar, and I've never seen aeygo connected with sex, while ahegao is pretty common, so I wasn't 100% sure aeygo was truly your intention.

Also, since you were anon and I want to make sure the correct anon is answering me, if you could include in your reply the second half of your prompt so I know it's you, that'd be great. Doesn't have to be word for word or anything, just the general idea.

In anticipation of the questions to come, we would like to go ahead and clarify the prompt ‘Pulling a Ferris Bueller’ for anyone who may not understand the reference. 

Pulling a Ferris Bueller is a pop culture reference born from the 1986 American teen comedy, Ferris Bueller's Day off.’ In the film, the titular character, Ferris Bueller, not for the first time, decides he wants to skip school. It’s a nice day and he’d like to go to Chicago with his best friend and girlfriend. He devises a complicated plan that starts with faking sick, after which he goes to great lengths to avoid being caught. These lengths include (but aren’t limited to) telling plenty of lies, creating an elaborate setup to make it appear he’s never left his bed, borrowing an expensive car and later rolling the odometer back, and hacking school records. This all becomes especially humorous as the school’s dean becomes increasingly desperate to prove that Ferris is continually absent despite the perfect attendance that had been recorded.  While out and about the trio hit several comical snags and engaged in a great deal of banter. During the film, Ferris often breaks the fourth wall to explain his choices and thought processes.

Basically, the saying, 'Pulling a Ferris Bueller' usually means faking sick to skip school/work for no reason other than to have a good time. As a trope, it tends to lean more heavily into the movie's plot and themes. You can use Either! ... or Neither!

I'm confused, what happened to Macaque in the dream exactly?

Ah, I guess I made that a smidgen too vague in trying to write him not really registering what is happening. I got another anon asking the same thing and saw confusion in the tags. Under read more for spoilers.

The implication I was going for when I said that something hit him from behind was that someone stabbed him and he was only registering the blood on his stomach and the coldness of the weapon that impaled him and not what weapon it was or that he was even impaled at all. That's why the shadow clone started to vanish. 

You get to pick who stabbed our boy, there's a couple options.

I have a question about the 'confession under fire' prompt. I'm a bit confused about what this one means, could you explain it?

Of course! “Confession Under Fire” means confessing something (usually feelings) in a moment of peril. Kind of like, “we’re about to die so I want to make sure you know I love you first.”

Anyway, on to your question: as always, we do encourage you to go with whatever the prompt inspires in you, even if it might not be the meaning we had in mind. That happens quite often, and we love it.

The meaning I had in mind is quite simple: foot or paw prints

That's literally it, that's all I thought when I wrote that prompt down.

But hey, if you think of train tracks or traces of blood - go for it 😉 you can also split the words, only use one of them, or write one story for each; it's all up to you.

But I must say that I'm intrigued as to what your two understandings are 😊

What does x+1 mean, for alt 17? plus one at an event?

Hey there 😊 thanks for your ask - and yes, that's one way to interpret it. The other one would go with the 5+1 style, but we didn't want to limit anyone, so we went with x+1.

I was reading the extra prompts for this year and came across "x + 1". I've tried googeling it but can't seem to figure out what it means. Do you think you could explain it to me, if you have time?

Hey there 😊 thanks for your ask, and sure thing!

Let me preface this by saying that with all our prompts, we like to encourage you to go with whatever they inspire in you. So if you have an idea but it's not exactly what the prompt was aiming for or what we had in mind when we put the prompt on the list, then that's totally fine - as long as you know why your creation works for the prompt, then all is good!

That being said, here's what our intention was with this prompt back in 2023 (when it was on the list):

The main focus of this prompt is based on the classic "5+1" fics. The type of fic where you have 5 scenarios in which your character does/says/thinks/etc one thing, and then in the last, something else happens that's usually the opposite of the previous 5. Let me give you some random examples:

5 times A was late +1 time he was right on time 5 times A was oblivious +1 time B was oblivious 5 times A lost something +1 time he found just what he needed

I'm not sure if this is popular in every fandom, but at least in the ones I'm active in, these types of fics are huge. And they can vary in all forms: 3+1, 7+1, 5+1+1... the options are basically endless and we didn't want to restrict you to just one format, so we went with x instead of a given number.

Another way to interpret it would be as "a plus one for an event", maybe a wedding, and A asks B to be their plus one so they don't have to go alone. That can totally work as well.
