ECL310 prompt 3
In our modern day world I don’t think that handwriting accounts the same value as it did a few years ago when technology wasn’t as easily accessible to students and classrooms. Times are changing and the need for all students to perfect their handwriting, especially in the higher years, isn't regarded as much of a priority anymore. I think as long as its legible and can be understood, teachers shouldn’t be too concerned of the quality of handwriting.
PROMPT 3:
This is a writing sample from a year 1 male student writing about his goal for the lesson and what he wants to achieve by the end of it. Looking at their response and referring to the 6+ 1 traits, it’s clear to identify that the student sounds in letter when it comes to spelling specific words is a little unclear to them. His writing structure is quite well, although he tried to write 2 sentences in one. Overall, he was able to tell the reader exactly what he was going to do, and it was easy to understand what he was trying to explain.
In relation to the 6+1 Traits of Writing, this Grade 1 student’s writing piece shows room for improvement in the ‘conventions’ trait. The student does not use capital letters at the start of any of the words, and eneds to work on their spelling. In addition, the student needs to focus on differentiating between the letters ‘b’ and ‘d’, as they evidently found difficulty in that. The teacher can help by creating a tracing chart for the alphabet to help the student work on differentiating the two letters, and give them a ‘commonly used words’ sheet to help the student familiarise themselves with the spelling of words
