This poster was found in my placement classroom and assisted students with their literacy no matter what text type they were studying or writing. Its perfect to use because of its simplicity and clarity of each aspect, as well as providing an example for each!
PROMPT 2 2018
Throughout my placement, I was in a grade 2 classroom. Within this classroom were many posters around the room which had been made as a class. One that they were working on whilst I was on my teaching rounds were Procedures. This was introduced to the students on my first day of placement and with the use of posters (which were made together most literacy classes) allowing the students to write their own procedures by the end of my two-week teaching round. I found the poster allowed the students to look back on in case they forgot the next step.
Prompt Two
Whilst on teaching placement in a grade 3/4 class I was given the opportunity to create a Poetry unit. Part of this was creating a classroom display for students poems and I came across the idea of creating a Poet Tree Display. Below are a few examples of other peoples displays. When I get a chance I will try to find a photo of my own display I created with students. As we learned about each type of Poem students were able to read a variety of Poems aloud to the class and additionally write their own. They then chose which of their poems they would like to display on our Poet Tree.
PROMPT TWO:
On my placement, for one of the lessons I was running, I was teaching the students how to summarise. This group of students seemed to be very visual and so I just had to make something for them to follow in order to understand the process of what is being taught. I make this A2 ‘5-Finger Retell’ poster that is on the classroom board to guide and assist the students with what was taught. I felt this was very beneficial as the students were able to follow step by step what they needed to include as well as a way to ensure they didn't miss anything when completing the task. My mentor really valued and appreciated the visual aide and said that she will continue using it for future lessons.
Reflection: The last time i was given the opportunity to create a classroom display was during high school for project. It was an assignment to create a poster containing facts, drawings and other information relevant to the set text at that chosen time. It was displayed with the rest of my peers work around of English classroom and we used these as reference points throughout the study of that book when we were required to gather unknown information or to help expand our ideas ensure we were inferring from the text in our essays. Poster: (Attached above) Using the Seminar Slides 10 - 27 from week two i have constructed a poster using Microsoft office word to display and highlight the important teaching comprehension strategies for literacy, when i wasn’t able to find information for all of the strategies solely from the slides, i had taken notes previously from pages 91-97 from the textbook activity on slide 11 and i have included these also. I’m not one for memes, however i do believe the poster i have created is suitable for a classroom.
