We would not know about Eric Garner without citizens like Ramsey Orta filming it. The officer was not indicted but the guy videotaping it was indicted. Indicted at a rather speedy pace comparatively too. Folks filming police brutality end up getting arrested all too often. Some states even have laws referring to videotaping as illegal wiretapping. Sounds very unconstitutional and it arguably is but its still on the books as an eavesdropping law being used to put people behind bars by officers mad at somebody filming them. This also gives the officer a chance to delete video evidence if it is not password protected on a cloud. Top that off, the charges of “wiretapping” an officer on duty, in a public place, like on the street via video camera = 75 years in prison.
