GRASPING AT STRAWS TENDS to make dead men out of the hopeful ones. doesn’t take a whole lot of time for that sort of thing to happen, either & every poor bastard thinks that they’re the exception. understanding your own mortality is a vital trait of survival, she’s discovered. professionalism doesn’t make her invincible & neither does experience, but it does demand a certain level of respect out of those she encounters. athena can afford measured confidence, so long as it doesn’t become hubris. she’s careful about that. being able to step with more freedom than most doesn’t mean she’ll go wandering into a minefield.
KEEPING HER DISTANCE IS a sign of respect; a gesture she doesn’t make a habit of sparing for just anyone. familiarity begins spinning a few questions through her head. discovering where she knows the other woman from can determine how this entire scenario plays out. considering most people here on pandora don’t properly use their words to settle differences, the likely route this moment will take is a violent one. not that athena isn’t thrilled by the possibility of an exhilarating duel.
WHAT CONVINCES HER THAT it’d be an interesting spectacle can’t be perceived at a first glance. weapons & armor mean little planetside, everyone ends up picking these things off dead bodies before being killed themselves to facilitate the cycle. a number of tiny details craft quite the image. eyes observe carefully, noting her stance & the way her attire clings to an admirably sculpted physique. she’s ready -- exceptionally fit, too, much like athena herself.
not that she’s LOOKING, simply coming to a helpful conclusion.
“ recognizing someone on pandora is rarely ever a good thing. “

A wounded lioness, pride and body just as battered as back when the King was still among the living. Dress muddied at the hem and her steps slow and unsteady upon the dirt. She has no real direction, a life of exile and dishonor. Everything that had happened had only managed to strengthen her resolve and fuel her thirst for blood. The wrongdoings of her people, those whom she was once trusted to lead. Betrayal had never tasted so bitter and she was not one for its unbecoming taste. ( like bile it settled on her tongue )
And so she'd found herself, alone, without any allies and nothing to keep herself safe with. No skills truly, grown up as a woman and taught nothing but life of luxury. Now upon one of the most dangerous roads in all of the Seven Kingdoms. Travelers of all kinds, different purposes and endgames. The cheery folk and even those with ill purposes are known to take the journey. Not forgotten, but abandoned instead to the life that is stripped of all that used to hold a meaning to her. Son sitting on the throne, the Hand in control and condemning her to such a fate.
She never should have trusted anyone, not even for the most flickering of moments. The betrayal, she tried to deny just how much it still STINGS. Just how much it makes her want to c l a w out her own throat for ever letting it get to this point. Because she should have known better. She was raised better than to let herself get fooled by them. She was supposed to be the Queen, it was supposed to be her time to shine, she had worked her whole life towards it. She'd suffered for it and now she was stolen the chance to rule ever again. Cheated out of her right.
Up ahead she could see a small tavern, the door open. She glanced at her it with suspicion, her nose screwing up slightly at the thought of what might be revealed inside. The horrifying stench cruelly invaded her nostrils. There would have to be another one along the road soon enough, this estate was something she would not be caught dead in. The poverty didn't become her, it was not something she carried with too much pride. Trademark golden hair of the Lannisters now the only true mark of her birthright and the destiny she was meant to have. Those who had S T O L E N it would have to pay.

Xena could already tell this was going nowhere good, even as the small blonde rambled on, taking her usual sweet time to just get to the point. But at least she did get there, and Xena had to bite all manner of angry retorts.
"Are you outta your mind?" She asked, despite her not-very-hard attempts to be nice. "What would you have done if they’d have caught you, huh? You got any idea what men like that do to a pretty girl?" Xena growled out her words, jaw clenched tightly to help control her temper. She left Gabrielle alone for just a few days, and she goes and gets herself into a mess that could have cost herlife!
Stopping herself, Xena drew in a deep calming breath. The look of pride the blonde had been wearing, that look of self-satisfaction wasn’t something she wanted to trample on blindly. Otherwise Gabrielle might not ever try to do anything heroic again. “Look. You did good, alright? But next time maybe try having a little more of a plan. I don’t want to come back from something and find you in pieces.”
Gabrielle frowned for a moment. "I can handle myself you know! I was just making sure they didn't kidnap anymore girls. I have a plan too!" she said with a look of determination on her face.
