My (Brief) Thoughts on the Theia Arc
So I know pretty much everyone has had their say on the Theia arc (which is...still going on in the present...kinda?), but I want to add my two cents, haha.
It hasn't been my favorite arc overall; I feel like the relationship between Theia and Proto was rushed and thus disingenuous; their love didn't seem earned. I get that there's a limited number of episodes that can be reasonably dedicated to any arc, but I think several of the episodes where Earth was questioning his desire for life could have been cut and re-dedicated to building the relationship between Theia and Proto. I just never felt their chemistry. Jupiter and Saturn had chemistry right from the start (whether you consider it romantic chemistry or not is up to you), but I never got any of that from Theia/Proto.
However, I did really, really like the way they handled the collision. I was expecting it to be accidental, but I'm glad it wasn't. I'm also glad that both Venus' and Jupiter's influences played a role (Venus in flinging Theia, Jupiter in telling Mars to encourage Proto), since those two planets supposedly had gravitational influence in the collision in real life, at least according to some theories.
And the collision itself was done beautifully, animation-wise and vibe-wise. I loved the juxtaposition of the destructive act and the uplifting/optimistic music. It gave of an air of hope and (positive) sacrifice rather than simply death and chaos. I wasn't expecting that feeling. I liked it.
