Okay obviously TADC isn't a perfect show there's a lot of room to criticize it, but one complaint I've seen a lot that really bothers me is about Jax being bad representation. Obviously not everyone is going to connect with every character but once again a lot of the reasons she's been criticized baffle me and I want to complain about two of them specifically so I'm going to go do that now.
The first is just Jax being a bad person makes her bad representation. Obviously she is but this isn't a problem. Being queer doesn't inherently make someone a good person, and there's a lot of struggles people can go through figuring themselves out, if they ever do. Being queer can be messy and hard, these aren't feelings that should be watered down to become palatable to cis people. I'm not literally Jax in every single way, but we do share some coping mechanisms and the feelings that drive her actions are so real to me. That's the fundamental point of representation. It isn't to market us to cishet people and show us off. It's to connect with queer people, or whatever group is being represented, and creating stories they might not see elsewhere.
This sorta ties in to the second, in that Jax needed to have a happy ending specifically because not enough other media exists that give characters like Jax spotlight. The thing is while I would have loved a happy ending for Jax, it wasn't needed for her story. She's a warning sign, a character you aren't supposed to emulate. She's similar to Owen from I Saw the TV Glow in that way, yet this isn't a complaint I've seen against ISTTVG for some reason. Jax's story is a story that's just as valid to be told as one with a happy ending, and while you may have preferred that it doesn't make this one less important to be told. I've seen people say that yes, Jax should have had a happy ending, specifically because of how other media treats trans women. I think this is missing that this show is literally made by a trans woman, Gooseworx is trans, she's not responsible for what big studios do. This is a personal story created by a trans woman and that's good. Goose told a story to fit her vision and that isn't something that can or should be taken away. If she wanted to tell a happier story where Jax accepted herself then that would be great, but she didn't and that's fine. Expressing yourself is one of the biggest reasons people create things and Goose should have the space to say what she wants to saw regardless of what else is going on in other media.
End of rant. TLDR weird trans woman on the internet complains about other people's complaints that she doesn't like because they're dumb and bad.
I think the biggest problem with headcanoning jax as transmasc is that it completely destroys the story thats being told. Jax is about repression, she utilizes misogyny to push people away. Her story is so relatable for me personally, I was a Jax at one point, I couldn't accept myself and did everything I could to kill that part of me.
When you choose to interpret Jax as being transmasc the story completely falls apart. It's no longer a story about repression, it becomes transmasc jax being a misogynystic asshole to everyone for no real reason. That Jax isn't doing those things out of repression or feeling the need to hide "his" identity.
You can't just slap on the opposite identity to a character who's whole story is about their identity and have it still make sense. Repression becomes Oppression, theres nothing endearing or admiral or even being said with Jax as transmasc. Plus most importantly, it's erasure of a trans woman character.
Theres a gooseworx tweet/post about how people can pick up all of the subtle story things being written but then still make a theory thats completely the opposite of the message in that story. That's what this is in some way.

R34 artist have to get real creative to draw these characters, massive respect
A collab doodle I did with @empitsuh ! I had so much fun and of course I had to sneak Bill in and drew secretary Jax as well! ^^
I think a lot about the super early Trans Jax discourse and how a sizable margin of it was about how it was bad rep and how there was "better" representation of transness in other media. What really got to me though was how a lot of the "good" rep were characters that had already transitioned or transitioned in the story.
While that type of representation IS very important (especially now), I do feel a little weird about how that type of rep is hailed as the superior type. I know more trans people that are like Lee/Jax, only out to certain people and/or are still moding for the most part. So the idea of a character like Jax, who is very messy ON PURPOSE, being seen as lesser rep for not outwardly saying the T word and not transitioning on screen feels really... off-putting. It especially makes me concerned for trans spaces where people who are having complicated feelings towards their gender and presentation LIKE Jax may see the discourse as invalidating their transness.
I don't think a lot of these people that called Jax bad rep are trying to do this, but it still stands that such a negative response to a style of trans rep not really common in mainstream media may unintentionally make people who do see themselves in Lee feel unwelcome, and that's a tragedy.
I like to think that trans jax would wear baggy clothes and not all that clothing and the hair, maybe she'd get into that later in her transition
IF JAX HAS A MILLION FANS, THEN I AM ONE OF THEM
IF JAX HAS A THOUSAND FANS, THEN I AM ONE OF THEM
IF JAX ONLY HAS TEN FANS, THEN I AM ONE OF THEm
IF JAX HAS NO FANS, THEN I AM NO LONGER ALIVE.
AHH I FUCKING LOVE HER SOOO MUCH AHHAHAHAHAHNSOCHWNFI ECUHDBFNJCUEN
Thank you goose for making this amazing digital series
