What does a typical day look like for a FactSet engineer?
FactSetter Donato shares his experience as an engineer in our London office.
I am a member of the Estimates team and usually a typical day would start with me going through my emails, checking if something has been assigned to me, and searching for updates on requests.
Then comes the fun part, DEVELOPING. This is what I like the most-- thinking about ways to improve our systems (performance, robustness, stability) and how to offer more functionality to our clients. Cool stuff!!!
Developing can also consists of countless hours of intense debugging, but at the end it gives you that amusing feeling of satisfaction, because you discovered what was causing the issue and it gives you the opportunity to come up with an idea on how to fix it.
Every day, you can count on having a relaxing lunch break with your colleagues while playing board games and sharing experiences.
In my team, a lot of our responsibilities are aimed to improving our systems. I like what I do and seeing something you created being used by clients all over the world is just PRICELESS!

FactSet is a large company but has maintained the small-company feel. There is a great culture which encourages teamwork and a work life balance including numerous social activities from sports and evenings out, to charity work all of which I have really enjoyed! The majority of colleagues from consultants to management have been through the process I went through which means they are empathetic and can give experienced, first-hand advice on any questions I might have. You grow with those you started - The majority of my group of new hires have become more than colleagues but also friends, this also means I have their support and they are some of the smartest and hardworking people I know!

What did you enjoy the most about training?
Training was five weeks of constant challenges. The most enjoyable part of it was definitely going through these challenges with my peers from all around the world, building relationships that will stay with me throughout my career at FactSet.”

Faces of FactSet: Meet Janahan, Software Engineer at FactSet
1. How did you become interested in programming: In high school, there was a technical elective to satisfy. Most kids took a class on how to use Microsoft Office, but there was also an “Intro to Programming” class that my brother suggested. I found that not much compares to the feeling you get when the code actually works.
2. How did you become a Factsetter: At the University of Maryland Career Fair, I was drawn to the booth because I liked the cyan blue. And the rest is history!
3. Why do you love working at Factset: Opportunities for community involvement. I always wanted to get involved before but the avenues to do so weren’t so available. Here they make it so easy to be part of Mentoring, JA in a Day, book drives, food drives, and even more.
4. What does being a Factsetter mean to you: Great work- life balance. Working for a company that understands I have a life outside of work.
