Final week coming up Autumn Attic at @flowersgallery Kingsland Road 12 August - 18 September 2021 1. From left @jason_gubbiotti @demondawson @tonydaleyart @suzybabington 2. #suzybabington detail of 403 Forbidden. This exhibition, guest curated by artist Katie Pratt, brings together the works of nine artists using distinct modes of artistic enquiry to explore the alchemical shift between intention and outcome. The techniques employed in Autumn Attic range from improvisational gestures to algorithmic strategies, incorporating chance, imagination, process and error. The attic referred to in the exhibition title is a metaphor for the part of the artistic and imaginative psyche where latent ideas are given space to evolve. Exhibiting artists include Suzy Babington, Adam Gillam, Ian Dawson, Prunella Clough, Bernard Cohen, Anthony Daley, Jason Gubbiotti, Katie Pratt and Katie Trick. @matthew_flowers #flowersgallery @adamgillam #adamgillam #iandawson #prunellaclough #bernardcohen #tonydaley #anthonydaley #jasongubbiotti #katiepratt @katie.trick #katietrick #contemporaryart #contemporaryartgallery #londonart #exhibition #artexhibition #abstraction #abstractart #contemporaryabstraction #contemporaryabstractart #londongalleries #londongallery https://www.instagram.com/p/CTo0k_2sCIF/?utm_medium=tumblr
This is the first exhibition with work by @jason_gubbiotti in UK Repost from @flowersgallery • Group exhibition ‘Autumn Attic’ opens today at Flowers Gallery on Kingsland Road, London, from 6-8pm. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The works pictured here are by artist Jason Gubbiotti (b.1975), who lives and works in the countryside, just outside of Paris, France. Gubbiotti's paintings begin with the construction of a unique physical support, of which no two are alike. These can be flat or bending, often primed as a smooth wood panel, or wrapped in cotton or linen. These wooden supports set the tone for the paintings, which are characterised by the evidence of improvised decisions, alterations and repair, which in Gubbiotti's words, causes the work to be "propelled forward from its initial plan to a realm not preconceived." He says: "My paintings may appear as if they are in transition, incomplete or unfinished. There are unpainted areas, passages built up more than others, and systems stopping short of a pattern. In these moments where my process is revealed the viewer is able to access the most formative stages of each painting. Nothing is eclipsed. Each layer is offered up for the viewer to discover, examine, and consider." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Images: Sunset Flip, 2020 - 2021, acrylic and griptape on wood panel; Messy boxes in the key of black and white, 2019, acrylic on canvas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Follow the link in our bio for further information about the exhibition. Rsvp to the private view via [email protected]. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This exhibition is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #AutumnAttic #abstractpainting #groupexhibition #sculpture @suzybabington @adamgillam @demondawson #PrunellaClough #BernardCohen @tonydaleyart @jason_gubbiotti @katie.trick https://www.instagram.com/p/CSjGU2AMYOM/?utm_medium=tumblr
