hi john! i'm new to editing, and was wondering how you do the wrinkled paper effect? (kind of like the edit you did of steve rogers)
hello there! i have some wrinkled paper textures saved to get that kind of effect (in case you don’t know what edit anon’s talking about, here it is):
some of my fav wrinkled paper textures are under the cut for you!
(i don’t know who the original creators are, but let me know if you do so i can add credit) also, jas shared some of these and more in this post which is always super helpful so give it a look!
i’m sure there are tons more on google and deviantart so you should definitely look there too if you want more! hope this helped :)
(if you need any more help with editing my inbox is always open! i’m sure your edits will be amazing)
Hey. I'm sorry to bother you. but I wanted to ask : how you make gifs in your graphics? with the brush, like in post/183337367538/k-a-z-b-r-e-k-k-e-r-for this edit. If you could please make a tutorial? mucho amor de españa
hello ! it’s very easy, so this will be a short tutorial . anon is asking about this:
explanation under the cut !
( i might add images later, but for the time being i will use only text because uni is killing me and taking screenshots would take a ton of time, sorry ! )
once you’ve made your graphic ( as a still image ) you might want to add that moving brush effect you can see in the edit. all you have to do is create new layers ( for this edit, i created 3 empty new layers ) and choose a brush of your liking to start drawing .
what i did here was circling the word ‘kaz’ three times, one in each layer. when you’re finished, you’ll be left with three layers that have a similar, but not identical, hand-drawn circle around the word.
now, open the timeline and click on the three little squares at the bottom to transform it into a frame animation. you’ll see a single frame with a duration of around 5secs or so . create two more new frames ( so you’re left with three hand-drawn layers and three frames, one for each layer ) and set the frame duration to your preference ( if i’m not wrong, i think i set it to 0,08 or so for this edit ) .
keep in mind that, at least for me, the preview you can see in photoshop is slowed down, so once you save it it may go a lot faster than you expected it to. play around with different numbers to get a result that’s not too fast but not too stiff either !
all you have to do now is export your gif ! i hope this helped you :)
☆ a tutorial on how i make icons, as requested by anon! i hope this is helpful
- program used: photoshop cc 2019
- difficulty: easy ★☆☆☆☆
- time: 3-5 minutes per icon
we will be learning how to make something like this:
my photoshop is set to spanish, but i’ll be explaining each step so don’t worry if you can’t find an option just by looking at the pics!
first, you should create a new document with the size you want your icon to be. lately i’ve been making 150x150px icons so that’s what i went with!
after that, place the picture you want to use as an embedded object
( this is just a way to do it, but you could also skip these two first steps by opening your pic of preference with photoshop and cropping/resizing it to whatever size you prefer! )
you will be left with something like this so that you can move your picture around and resize it before placing it:
when you’ve placed it perfectly, click on the tick mark at the top or press enter so that your picture stays as a new layer. i like to sharpen my images before starting so that’s what i did: [ filter » sharpen ]
now, add the psd you want to use! ( here are the ones i like to use for icons )
the psd you use will do mostly all the colouring work for you, but if you want to colour each icon individually yourself that’s also an option!

i wanted to go for something a bit brighter and colourful, so i added a colour fill and created a layer mask* so that it doesn’t cover the figure:
* if you don’t know what layer masks are, phlearn explains it perfectly in this video !
it’s time to doodle! i used a 2px default brush with 100% hardness to draw over the pic, and then sharpened the layer i drew on so that the result is nicer:
then i added a few more adjustment layers ( brightness/contrast and saturation ) to get the colours i wanted:
and you’re done! :)
i hope this was helpful ( i also added the icon we created, as well as the b&w version, to my icons page in case you want to use it! )
hey john! how do you add fonts to ps bc i have the cracked version of ps and can't really sinc typekit to it
hey! this is a super late reply but i’m still gonna answer in case someone needs it!
if you can’t use typekit for whatever reason / don’t want to / the font you’re looking for isn’t available there, you can always use webs like ♡ . ♡ . ♡ (among many others) and download fonts (some are free, others are premium) and install them on your computer.
once you’ve downloaded and extracted the file (on mac, all you have to do is double click on the zipped file / on windows, right click > extract files) install the .ttf / .otf file by double clicking on it and then clicking again on the ‘install’ button that should be on the window that’ll pop up. the font will be installed and you’ll be able to use it on photoshop!
hello anon ! if you mean the torn paper effect, i used these brushes that i got from this post by @graecian . if you mean the falling snow thing, you can find some textures here !
hi! which overlay did you use here? /post/187212589611/tywvin-scorpio-for-sqilormoons-scorpio
hello ! i used this pattern ! i couldn’t find the set i downloaded it from so i uploaded it for you. it’s exactly like the background pngs have ( that ‘transparent’ texture ) so don’t get confused if you use it haha

(i’m assuming you’re the same person lol) i use these psds → ☆ ☆ ☆ ( recommended by @lavndertown in this post! ) + an extra layer for brightness/contrast !
hi john!!! can i ask where you get your doodles? (like the ones in your icons) or do you draw them yourself? i hope you're doing well today! 💖
hello tippy ! i draw them on myself :) i normally use the default round brush that comes with photoshop, at 100% hardness, and between 1px and 3px at most ! size depends on what you like best, really. i hope that helped ! have a nice day ♡
