A SETTLED SOUL But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 As I linger on my patio this peaceful morning sipping a latte — birds are singing and my heart longs to draw near to God. It’s been a year in our Tennessee home and we’ve made some changes and made it our own. I’m feeling settled in my new state. But I still find myself distracted — with planning, and doing and every new decorating trend swirling in a riptide of ideas. And there are the real, every day worries and concerns of life that consume my thoughts. And I hear the words of Jesus speaking to my own spirit — Cindy, Cindy, you are worried about so many things. It’s easy to relate to Martha preparing her home and doing the necessary things. Yet, the true longing within me desires a heart like Mary. And the Lord whispers Truth to my soul. ONLY ONE THING IS NECESSARY. There is a deceiver who wants to keep us from the One thing we need most. His plan — to keep us distracted! Strive. Please people. Make more money. Keep up with the latest trends. Never be satisfied. There will always be a multitude of reasons to stay busy. Some are truly good things. But as I listen to the gentle sounds of nature, a Supernatural peace settles over me. We have to choose to respond to the invitation of the Lord to come away to a Quiet place. The ONE place where the soul is settled and feels right at home. PRAYER: Lord, thank you for my home and the blessings you give so abundantly. Be welcome here. Help me to listen to Your Voice above all others and to keep YOU as the most important thing in my life. #thedailystill #soulfood #soulnourishment #devotional #Psalm63 #stillness #welcome #bestill #onething #home #tennessee #stillness #noticingGodsPresence #decorating #settled #brentwoodtn
