Alyn was my first well-thought-through MC. I relate to her in a lot of ways, and care about her deeply. However, currently all the development of her character and universe is on hiatus.
Danny was born during my recovery from a burnout, when I was desperately craving a contrast to everything I typically think of. He's unlike any main character I've ever created.
Today I feel like sharing a bit about some of their similarities and differences. Some of them can be seen even in theirs IDs:
I won't mention everything here, just some aspects that probably matter most for their inner worlds. Some similarities first:
As canon MCs, they both wield Ancient Magic and started Hogwarts as fifth-years. As canon MCs, they'll destroy themselves to keep others safe while being terrible at caring about themselves.
They're both separated from the most important people for them. Danny hasn't seen his father since that most dreadful night when he was seven. Alyn can't talk to her mother because of an Unbreakable Vow made to Aurors who consider her too dangerous to be among Muggles.
Differences. Upbringing and family:
Alyn grew up in a wealthy Muggle family that adopted her. Magic was just some childhood tales.
Danny grew up poor in a town with his Muggle mother and grandparents. But his father's a wizard, so Danny knew a lot about the magical world. He was devastated when his Hogwarts letter never came at 11.
Danny painfully misses his father while he's somewhat estranged from his mother. It's opposite for Alyn, as she's always been distant from her father but misses her mother, who'd always understood her.
School:
Alyn studies a lot. She takes detailed notes and actually uses them, reads for classes and for fun, and enjoys theoretical aspects of magic. Danny learns best by doing and experimenting. He'd prefer friends telling about what was in those reading assignments. And boy is literally dying at written exams.
Danny is enthusiastic beater on the Quidditch team. Alyn thought about trying Quidditch out of curiosity but never actually did. She doesn't attend most of the matches. She'd rather read, walk, or draw somewhere quiet.
Friends:
Danny tries to befriend everyone and can't stand being alone. Be adored to be safe, that's always been the rule. He's almost terrified of not belonging in a place he dreamed about for years. But he's also effortlessly charismatic and fun, and is popular, especially in Gryffindor.
Since sixth year, Alyn rather actively avoids new connections. She's polite but mostly keeps distance. Starts spending more time with Ominis partly because that's how people would talk to her less.
They get close with different people. Take our most favourite Slytherin boys: Danny's person is Sebastian. They bond effortlessly and understand each other perfectly. But he can't connect with Ominis at all, not that anyone is upset because of it. Alyn's person is totally Ominis; they think alike, and she would always side with him. But she can't trust Sebastian, and it's unlikely they'll become close friends.
Basically, Danny needs noise, people, parties, Quidditch - anything to avoid being alone. Alyn needs solitude, art, books, assignments - anything to keep distance. How much of this is preference and how much is survival? Good question. Can you guess?

one of Danny's most wonderful traits is ✨ active listening. you will feel like the most important and most seen person in the world when talking to him. no dissociation in this body, just pure engagement ✨
❌ just avoid abstract concepts like FeELiNgS or ThE FuTuRe, especially his own. god forbid. or you'd only hear how he suddenly needs to be literally anywhere else. and also... will he actually remember the conversation?... it depends on so many things lol
