pseudoazn reblogged your post:And honestly with Sera and Vivienne you have to...
I actually didn’t have a hard time befriending them. Vivienne liked that I’m practical and Sera enjoyed that I was fun...
congrats? I mean that’s great that ur Inquisitor did all that but what I’m trying to say is in-game choices tend to work against you when becoming their friend. For instance, I know one of the most popular decisions is to ally with the mages: Sera will disapprove unless you take them prisoner or disband the Templars. Vivienne I believe approves of taking the mages prisoner/siding with the Templars. And they both give a huge hit of approval for your decision to NOT do one of these things, but unlike say, The Iron Bull, who also gives you a hit in approval, have nothing to make up for it. Kill a dragon and Bull stops caring. Do even ONE step in one of Cassandra’s personal quests, and her approval has been rebalanced. Vivienne you don’t get another opportunity to balance out approval until after the two main quests- someone said that her book quest gave a greatly approves but I can’t recall that? I got a slightly approves for each book, but can’t recall anything at the end (not that it isn’t true).
And with Sera especially, because Sera is a LOT harder than Vivienne, your dialogue with her works against you just because you CAN’T agree with her. The game won’t let you. Lemme give you an example: elfyness. We have another elf companion that feels zero kinship with the elves of Thedas, and that is Solas. However, with Solas, you have an opportunity (post-Halam) to tell him that you understand that he doesn’t feel kinship with other elves and would never presume to group him in with a people he has no common experience with besides having pointy ears. He reacts thankfully. With Sera, you can poke her and prod her and demand why she doesn’t want to be an elf. You can hound her with questions about her past and once you finally get her friendship up, you can tell her that you sort of get it, to which she will tell you to drop it and you can either hound her some more or drop it. With Solas you are constantly questioning your kinship with elves, how they’ve affected your life growing up, how your experience as an elf has affected your biases. With Sera, you can tell her that elves are fucking stupid amirite -high five-, you can tell her that you think it’s weird she doesn’t want to be an elf/you think SHE’S weird for not “being like an elf”, or you can just not talk about it. There’s no dialogue where you can assure Sera that there’s no “way to be an elf”, that she’s not obligated to get misty eyed at the vhenedal (sp) or to go live out in the woods and throw her boots away. You can do that with Solas. But not Sera.
