Irish Memories vs. Life in London
I don't think I've ever been more excited to go anywhere more than I was to go to Ireland. When I really think about it, I was never extremely enthusiastic about living in London before I got here. I was more excited about visiting the surrounding places living in London would allow me to go. Ireland was definitely at the top of my list. I have dreamt of gazing at the Wicklow countryside for as long as I can remember. I wanted to walk the cobblestone streets of Temple Bar at 4 am watching drunken musicians hobble home. I wanted to hear someone sing Galway Girl in a pub. I got to do all of it. Dublin is a city so different than London. I got the same calming feeling the second I got off the plane that I got in Edinburgh. The people were so much more relaxed. I relaxed. Being in the countryside was even better. We first ventured to the Wicklow countryside with a really funny tour guide (who was also a little creepy taking pictures of us on his personal phone...but we played it off as "Oh! Now we'll for sure make it in the brochure!" Instead of letting it ruin our whole time haha). We travelled through the Dublin Mountains, through Wicklow, to Lake Guinness, small towns hidden away, secret waterfalls, a pub with the best Irish coffee, and, of course, my favorite, the P.S. I Love You bridge (see video). The next day we went all the way to the Cliffs of Moher (a six hour drive on the bus), which was probably one of the most breathtakingly beautiful moments of my life.
By the end of the trip though, my friends and I found ourselves thanking God we had chosen London over Dublin to study abroad. Though Dublin and Ireland were probably the best four days of our experience so far, London just has so much more to offer. We never run out of things to do here. Everyday is an adventure. When I got off the bus and came home, I sighed with relief again. I was back in the bustling city I now call my second home.
