I absolutely enjoy writing but I always feel hella sad whenever my work doesn't get any love :( I'm new to actually sharing my work but It's literally depressing lmao, is there anything that you tell yourself to not get discouraged when you first started? I hope that your day was wonderful, your work is amazing!

Thank you so so much for sending in an ask, it means the world <3 As for getting discouraged, I totally get the feeling. It can be really discouraging when you spend a lot of time writing something, to then upload it on here or another platform and get low engagement on it. Personally I get worried that it wasn’t as good as I thought it was and I tend to overthink it.

However, I think at the end of the day any engagement is motivation to keep writing, at least for me. I’ve loved writing my entire life, and was even in a creative writing after-school club when I was in middle school, and we would go to state contests for it! My writing has definitely evolved since then (thank goodness). But I remember being told at some point during that, that even if one person can be moved or inspired by a piece of your writing, you’ve done your job as a writer.

When I first started posting on Tumblr I had no idea what “good” engagement was like for posts. But honestly- “good” engagement doesn’t even exist. Yeah, we love it when our posts get seen a lot and get a bunch of likes, reblogs, and comments, but if you like what you put out, that’s all that matters. I feel like if you start catering your writing solely focusing on how many notes it’ll get, it’s not going to be something you enjoy making.

I know that was really long winded and I apologize for that, but it is a valid concern that I also get a lot. As long as you love what you’re doing, keep doing it.
