Are Gemini usually more on the compassionate or uncaring side? Mean or kind? Generous or selfish?

In general, Gemini's are more compassionate. They truly care about other's feelings, but may appear uncaring, because they can come across as harsh. They enjoy helping people, but may be too blunt for the more sensitive signs. To be honest, Gemini's are a tad bit on the selfish side. They are often vain, they are well-aware of their appearance, and magnetic nature. This does not mean Gemini's aren't generous, but as a whole, they are a bit selfish. 

It really does depend on the day, and the mood of the Gemini, because they are said to have a split personality.
