Strasbourg; 2024 World Book Capital City.

2024 is an exceptional year for Strasbourg. The city has just received the Unesco "World Book Capital" label, awarded each year to a city that is committed to promoting books and reading in all its forms. This is the first time that a French city has earned it. Over the course of an entire year starting on 23 avril, Strasbourg will pay tribute to books and reading through a wide range of events and activities under the title "Lire notre monde" (Reading our World).

Take a fresh approach to organizing an event - either in-person, on social media or video conferencing platforms.

Events, such as panel discussions, public lectures or even a quiz can be an effective way of raising awareness or sharing knowledge about the health and environmental benefits of pulses during the World Pulses Day.

This conference theme tackles the vital issue of what governments and institutions need to do before and after disasters. What more should be done in the planning process to build capacity and resilience? What more can be improved in the response to disasters that will help to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those affected?

Over these two days we will bring together a range of perspectives from across disciplines to address multiple hazards, their associated risks and discuss how to plan for a resilient future. We will consider multiple forms of resilience building – including hazard mapping, spatial planning, early warning systems and policy change – as well as opportunities to improve the initial emergency response and subsequent rebuilding of communities and infrastructure.
