PUG WEEK
when I am married I am going to have the week of the pugs. for four days I will bring home a new pug puppy each day. on the fifth day my husband is going to be at work thinking "god dammit she better not buy a fucking fifth pug." and I won't. but when he comes home each of the four pug puppies will be dressed in a different zoo animal costume. it will be a pug zoo. pug.
PUG WEEK DAY FIVE: FRIPUG
Like THURSPUG, FRIPUG extends into the night!
Jade and Jasmine engage in some hardcore cuddling.
As for a FRIPUG photo, I bring you proof that they really do cuddle as hard as they do in my art! Jade and Jasmine smush faces while cuddling so often that not only was I able to draw and paint the above picture from life, but have a bunch of photos in the exact same smush faced pose.
Jade only looks this interested when she's downwind of someone's fart.
I wish I was kidding.
Dogs are gross.
FRIPUG fact of the day! Francisco de Goya, known best for his Third of May painting, also loved to paint pugs, and they show up in several of his works. However, the pugs in de Goya's art do not quite look like the pugs of today as the flat faced modern standard was established later, by Queen Victoria who took to breeding both black and fawn pugs. One of de Goya's more recognizably puggish pug cameos can be found here.
PUG WEEK DAY TWO: TUEPUG
HAPPY TUEPUG!
This is an almost-finished ink study of Jade T. Superstar and Jasmine Queen of Farts (named for Mary Queen of Scots) cuddling. They do love to cuddle!
As for your TUEPUG dose of photo-cuteness, I have something even better... two videos taken a couple years ago when my husband and I visited the Georgia Guidestones. As cool as the structure and its modern mysteries are, the best part was meeting this little boy, whose interest lay not in the guidestones but in walking my dogs for as long as possible!
Click for video: Part I!
You might ask yourself, what happens when this little boy's parents tell him it's time to leave the guidestones and the pugs? Click the image below to find out!

TUEPUG Fact of the Day: The pug has long been used as a covert symbol of the Freemasons. Often, when a new member was inducted into the Freemasons, they were given a piece of art--a painting, a figurine, etc--of a pug as congratulations for joining!
See you tomorrow for WEDPUG!!
PUG WEEK: DAY ONE
Happy PUG WEEK everyone! I'm sorry I did not get to see any of you at NYCC but life happens, and I finished my microcomic GHOST LIGHT! which while a Pyrrhic victory is a victory nonetheless!
So, happy MONPUG!
Today I feature Jade T. Superstar Taney Lucrezi, the pug who shows up most often on my blog and with me at cons.
Click for big!
The T in Jade T. Superstar stands for Tripod, and with good reason. Jade is a rescue dog whose back left leg was crushed by a car and amputated shortly before I adopted her. I have been disabled for a decade, and I could have adopted a fully-abled pug from the rescuer but with both Jade and Jasmine I chose to adopt special needs pugs because so much of my life people have kindly taken care of me, and I wanted to return the favor.

I adopted both dogs sight unseen and feel very lucky that Jade and Jasmine are as cute as they are. Even dedicated flat-face-dog-fans such as myself must admit, some of the breed can get pretty pugly!
MONPUG Random Pug Fact of the Day: While much of the history of pug breeding in China has been lost to the ages, pugs have for a long time found homes as companion animals in Buddhist temples and monasteries.
Tomorrow is Day Two, or Tuepug, of PUG WEEK, which will continue for six more days and six more pieces of original pug art as well as six more never-before-seen cute pug photos! When this is all over I will be compiling a PUG WEEK gallery and archive so pug fans, or fans of Jade and Jasmine, can browse all of the pugness at your leisure.
Progress post!
It's been a little while since my flurry of posts about SPX and my plans for future projects, and perhaps with little sign of progress you've found yourself wondering if this Joy person is all talk!
Therapy Human needs to get her ass in gear.
Have no fear, fellow art appreciator, this Joy person has been working hard to bring you and the internet a PUG WEEK of the highest quality, and a microcomic, GHOST LIGHT!, that will knock your socks off!
"But Joy person," you say, "how do I know what you are saying is true?"
In response I would cry "HAVE AT THEE!" and throw these previews at you!!
SPX friends might recall this friendly stare.
ANOTHER dog? This one has one eye.

Should I choose the smoothest curve Steady as the beating drum? Should I marry Kocoum? Is all my dreaming at an end? Or do you still wait for me, Dream Giver Just around the riverbend?
This is an extreme fish-eye study of the Delaware River and Jersey islands, the majesty of which feed and employ a good portion of the Poconos community. I got started on it while staying and working with my father this August. I'm unsure if there is watercolor paper large enough to properly capture the power of the wilderness towering over you, but I tried my best. I plan to finish this and give it to my father as a gift, so there will be a follow-up post in the future featuring the finished painting.
Some thumbnails for a certain microcomic, which have since become
AND, keep in mind all of these images are from a few days ago... and many have progressed since
Let's get one more preview in there for those of you with a pug predilection, to prime your 'preciation of all things PUG WEEK!
(But seriously, thank you for sticking with me and being patient with my slower-than-anticipated output! My cold-into-bronchitis has made it hard to work at my preferred pace, and I'm truly grateful for how understanding everyone is about a compromised immune system being a part of my disability :))
