@puiruk asked: slow dance -- x
SHE’D BEEN INVITED, OF COURSE. DESPITE ALL THAT HAD HAPPENED BETWEEN them and the fact he was marrying the woman he’d left her for, she’d still been invited to the wedding. Their families had been friends since childhood and though she could have done without feeling that obligation to attend, she had known this day would come eventually. Though that hardly meant she had to be happy about it, nor that she had to wipe that scowl off her face as she stood, drink in hand, on the outskirts as those others in attendance danced around her.
Seeing Kya approach her, she inwardly sighed. It wasn’t that the woman’s presence was unwelcome, only that Lin didn’t want to hear any words of pity or anything of the sort from anyone. She’d already had to endure a few looks of pity from others who knew her and the groom’s history and she wasn’t eager to put up with any more of it.
Upon being asked to dance, Lin glanced at the glass in her hand then back to the woman before her as though wondering whether she was willing to put it down, even for a moment. Though with a heavy sigh, she did, however reluctantly, and let Kya drag her onto the dance floor where she couldn’t have felt more awkward. Between feeling naked in the sharp dress suit she’d donned for the evening without the metal she used for protection, and not being a very good dancer, she felt rather foolish as Kya began their procession. “This better not be a pity dance,” she said, eyes glued to her own feet to be sure she didn’t step on Kya’s.
