Rosemary & Sage Slow-Cooker Pulled Turkey This is what my Gobbler Bomb is all about! The turkey! This was another first for me as I have never cooked an entire turkey breast before. The only time I encounter turkey is usually for Thanksgiving and it is the whole bird going in the oven. I am glad I tried this out, though, and slow cooking it was definitely the way to go. About seven hours after prepping and cooking the bird, I had juicy, fall off the bone turkey breast. I also could not help but feature my other little turkey, my nephew, Ethan! I mean, look at those little turkey feet for goodness sake! INGREDIENTS 1 bone-in skin-on whole turkey breast (about 6 lbs) ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 3 sprigs fresh rosemary 10 fresh sage leaves 12 garlic cloves, peeled 2 medium sweet onions, slivered 1 ½ tsp sea salt 1 tsp dried rosemary 1 tsp dried sage ½ tsp garlic powder 1 tsp black pepper DIRECTIONS In a small bowl, mix the salt, dried rosemary, dried sage, garlic powder, and black pepper. Place the onions and garlic cloves in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Slowly work your fingers under the skin of the turkey breast to separate the skin from the breast, being careful not to tear the skin. Rub the olive oil under the skin, covering the entire breast as evenly as possible, then rub the breast and outside of the skin with the dry rub mixture. Place the prepared turkey breast on top of the onions and garlic in the slow cooker and set the slow cooker to low. Cook until the meat is tender and falling apart, about 6 to 8 hours depending on the size of the breast. Remove the turkey and any bones from the slow cooker. Pull the meat off of the bone and place the turkey back into the juices left in the slow cooker. Using two forks, shred the meat in the juices and allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. . . . Pulled pork has been all the rage through 2014 and 2015, and we wanted to hit this contemporary classic with a Christmas twist.
Instead of using pulled pork, we went for a more seasonal turkey and used breast from the joint. These were massive and guaranteed to fill a family of five no problem.
This recipe is actually really easy. All you need to do is dice the vegetables and sautee them in the aluminium pot out of the Sizzle to Simmer slow cooker. Next, add turkey, cranberry sauce, dried cranberries, BBQ sauce and chicken stock then stick it on a low heat and cook for six hours.
After that has been done, take the meat out and reduce down the sauce that is left behind. You can do this on the hob, using the slow cooker pot.
After the sauce has been reduced, pull the turkey apart and add it back to the pot.
Mix it in thoroughly, and dump some pulled turkey onto a brioche bun.
Ingredients
1 carrot
1 celery stick
1 onion
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
Handful dried cranberries
250g cranberry sauce
4 tbsp BBQ sauce
2 large turkey breasts
1/2 pint chicken stock
Method
1. Dice your vegetables and sautee them with the oil in the Sizzle to Simmer pan.
2. Place the pot back into the slow cooker housing and put the turkey breasts, cranberry sauce, cranberries and BBQ sauce on top of the meat.
3. Pour the chicken stock over the meat and slow cook on low for six hours.
4. After six hours, take the breast out and reduce down the sauce that is left behind on the hob. Make sure to take the aluminium pot out the housing to do this.
5. Pull apart the turkey breast and add back to the sauce. Mix in thoroughly.
6. Serve it up onto some brioche buns. Top with a pink ‘slaw if the mood strikes.
