Long run Sunday!!! I actually did just a hair over 14 miles but I was really measuring my half-marathon time. It’s about forty seconds slower than the last half I ran at the start of August, BUT that was on a completely flat path in Ohio and today’s run was on the very hilly roads in my area. I don’t really care about times that much, but I’m really glad I’ve apparently improved enough that I could do a more challenging course in about the same time!!
Most importantly, unlike my last half marathon I did not injure my calf in a way that put me on the sidelines for almost a month and led to severe flare ups of both depression and sciatica!! So changing my training program to a slightly less rigorous one was evidently a good idea!
Still trying to find on-the-road nutrition that will work, I really have to force myself to choke down the granola and energy bars I typically bring. Felt surprisingly good until a little after mile 10 and then I was about to hit a wall. Thank G-d for the song “My Body” by Young the Giant (seriously).
